TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University and Sun Devil Athletics celebrated the important tradition of graduation last week as 78 Sun Devil student-athletes graduated in spring and 18 additional will graduate in summer for a total of 96 graduates.
Including fall graduates (21), a total of 117 Sun Devil student-athletes received their degrees in 2019-20.
A total of 44 student-athletes graduated with honors, including 16 Summa Cum Laude (3.80 to 4.00 GPA), 16 Magna Cum Laude (3.60 to 3.79 GPA), and 12 Cum Laude (3.40 to 3.59 GPA).
Five student-athletes finished their degree in less than four years while 12 student-athletes will graduate from Barrett Honors College. Ten former student-athletes returned to complete their degree in the 2019-20 academic year.
There is one Tip of the Fork Program graduate in 2020. This program encourages high-performing Sun Devil student-athletes to redefine their standard of excellence by providing them with experiences and education to become transformative leaders in their community.
In addition to the normal ASU sports programs, a partnership with USA Triathlon called Project Podium was introduced two years ago.
"USA Triathlon and ASU embarked on a one-of-a kind 'Project Podium' partnership two years ago to create opportunities for elite athletes to excel in the classroom and compete on a world stage," Vice President for University Athletics Ray Anderson said. "We are proud to celebrate Chase and Duncan as the first graduates from this remarkable program."
