TEMPE  – No. 2/18 Sun Devil Swim and Dive opened the new year, honoring 21 seniors and earning a sweep over Grand Canyon Saturday afternoon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.

The men’s team downed the Antelopes 208-91, and the women’s team won their second dual meet of the season, 224.5-74.5. The Sun Devils won 25 of the 32 events on the day.

Senior breaststroker Andy Dobrzanski won the 200 breast in 1:56.18 by nearly two seconds over freshman Jonathan Itzhaki. In the 200 back, freshman Mattia Mauri edged out sophomore Michael Hochwalt to win the race in 1:46.65. Graduate Jordan Tiffany won the 200 free in 1:34.72, outpacing senior Jonny Kulow, who was second in 1:35.29.

Freshman Albane Cachot made her Sun Devil debut and swept the three freestyle events. In the 50 free, she won the race in 22.43, in the 100 free, she touched the wall first in 49.11, and in the 200 free, she finished in 1:46.38. Making her Sun Devil debut, June Tran-Hansen was fourth in the 100 breast, hitting the wall in 1:03.55.

The freshman quartet of Cali Watts, Alexia Sotomayor, Shane Golland and Cachot helped finish off a strong meet for the women’s team by winning the 400 free relay in 3:20.07. Sophomore Jordan Greber won the 100 back by nearly two seconds, touching the wall in 53.59. She was second in the 500 free in 4:57.81, senior Ella Guilfoil won the race in 4:53.85.

Seniors honored Saturday afternoon

The Sun Devils host the Big 12 West Championship which features Arizona, Kansas, Utah and BYU in the first-of-its-kind swim meet on January 16-17 at 10 a.m. at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Houston is hosting the Big 12 East Championship, highlighting West Virginia, TCU, Cincinnati and Iowa State.

  • No. 2 ASU Men 208 vs. GCU 91
  • No. 18 ASU Women 224.5 vs. GCU 74.5

Diving results

  • Junior Kayden Hayes won the 3m diving competition, scoring 318.53 points, followed by freshman Libby Thai, finishing second with 311.78. Senior Amayah Wiley was third with 309.00.
  • Hayes won 1m diving, scoring 306.30, Wiley was third with 295.43 and Thai finished in fourth, tallying 270.53.
  • Lane Stallworth was runner-up in the 1m diving with 332.55 and in the 3m diving event, scoring 378.60. Senior Caleb Liban was fourth with 355.50 points.
