Season in review
The Sun Devils will head into the postseason after finishing the regular season red hot in a dual setting. After starting the dual slate 0-8, ASU won four of its last five duals, including ranked wins over Cornell, Oregon State and Lehigh to finish at 5-11 with a final dual ranking of No. 29 per Intermat. Notably, the Sun Devils started the season unranked.

In tournaments, ASU has established itself as one of the premier programs in the nation, coming into the weekend with the No. 14 national tournament rank per Flo Wrestling. ASU placed fifth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational with 92 points on Dec. 8, 2025. The Sun Devils saw six individual winners at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 8, 2025, four individual winners at the Reno TOC on Dec. 21, 2025, two winners at the Cyclone Open on Jan. 18 and freshman heavyweight Ben Szuba winning the Edinboro Open on Jan. 31 to rack up plenty of hardware throughout tournaments this season.

Redshirt freshman Kaleb Larkin headlines all Sun Devils in competition this weekend, coming in as the No. 1 seed in the 157 pound division. Larkin finished the season at 20-2 across all matches with nine ranked wins between 149 and 157 pounds while posting a 7-1 record in strictly 157-lb matches. Larkin has competed in two tournaments this season, placing third at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 13, 2025, after winning an individual title at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 8, 2025 to begin the season. He was named Big 12 Wrestler of the week on Jan. 13, led the team with 11 bonus point wins and finished the regular season at No. 5 in Flo Wrestling’s 157-lb. rankings.

Freshman Kyler Larkin (133 pounds) and redshirt sophomore Nicco Ruiz (165 pounds) earned the No. 3 seed in each of their respective weight classes headed into the tournament.

Kyler Larkin finished the regular season at 16-1, with his lone loss coming via medical forfeit in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational championship to Iowa State’s No. 1 seed Evan Frost. Larkin secured a team-best seven ranked wins, went 8-0 in Big 12 action which included his first career dual win over former ASU national champion Richard Figueroa II on Nov. 23, 2025 in the Oklahoma State dual. He comes into the weekend at No. 3 in the national RPI index at 133-lbs. and No. 7 nationally in the most recent NCAA coaches rankings.

As for Ruiz, his second season as a starter at 165 saw him post a 20-5 overall record with five ranked wins while posting a 9-1 record against Big 12 opponents. Ruiz is one of two returners (Shay Addison) to compete in the Big 12 Championship and will look to build momentum from his sixth-place finish a season ago.

Graduate student No. 4 seed David Szuba (heavyweight) and redshirt sophomore No. 5 Pierson Manville (141 pounds) round out the Sun Devils seeded within the top-five.

Szuba comes into the weekend winning 11 bouts in a row and finished the regular season at 18-8. Szuba was crowned champion of the MAC tournament last year at Rider and earned an autobid to his first NCAA Championships as a result.

Manville is set to compete in his first conference tournament after registering a 15-6 record with six wins by technical fall. He could potentially line up against Oklahoma State’s No. 1 seed Sergio Vega, who Manville defeated 8-6 in the Pan-Am quarterfinals on July 10, 2024.

Graduate student Cael Valencia (174 pounds) earned the No. 8 seed in the 174-lb. bracket as the sixth and final Sun Devil to earn a top-seed in Tulsa. Valencia finished tied for the most TF wins (seven) and went 11-1 against unranked wrestlers this season.

Junior An’ee Vigil (125 pounds), senior Benji Alanis (149 pounds), redshirt junior Shay Addison (184 pounds) and graduate student Colton Hawks (197 pounds) will round out the field of Sun Devils competing.

Notes

  • The Sun Devils six seeded wrestlers is three better than last season, where they had three seeded wrestlers in the 2025 tournament.
  • ASU is seeking its first Big 12 Champion in its second appearance since joining the conference.
  • Kyler and Kaleb Larkin combined to go a perfect 12-0 against Big 12 opponents this season across six duals.
  • Additionally, Kyler was the lone Sun Devil to go undefeated in duals (8-0)
  • Kaleb Larkin could see fellow 157-lb headliners Vinny Zerban (Iowa State) and Ty Watters (West Virginia). In Larkin’s first two matches at 157, he knocked off then-No.3 Zerban and then-No.1 Watters in a span of three days to earn Big 12 Wrestler of the week.
  • David Szuba heads into the weekend as a winner of 11-straight with the exception of a match limit at the Cyclone Open back on Jan. 18
  • Pierson Manville outscored opponents 173-45 in the regular season and did not allow more than 10 points in a bout.
  • Cael Valencia is now one win away from 50 career wins - all as a Sun Devil.
