#3 Men’s Swim and Dive win Tri-Meet over #T-4 California and No. 8 Stanford
#18 Women’s Swim and Dive swam season-best times against two top-5 opponents over the weekend.
BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 3/18 Sun Devil Swim and Dive concluded its tri-meet against No. 8/3 Stanford and No. T-4/5 California Saturday morning at Spieker Aquatic Complex with five wins.
The men came out victorious, defeating two top-10 opponents, and the women tallied season-best times against the top swimmers in the country. For the meet, the men won 11 events in total and won their second straight tri-meet between the schools.
The day began with the men's team swimming the fastest 800 free relay in the country, hitting the wall in 6:13.37. Transfer JT Ewing won the 200 back in 1:41.19 which is the seventh-fastest time in program history. Freshman Alexia Sotomayor placed third in the 200 back in 1:56.72 for the women's team.
Florida transfer Adam Chaney was the only swimmer under 19 seconds in the 50 free, winning the event in 18.98. The Sun Devils swept the podium in the 50-yard sprint with Remi Fabiani placing second in 19.05 and Tolu Young placing third in 19.15, and Jonny Kulow was fifth in 19.15.
In the 500-yard free, Reece Grady was second in 4:18.51, and Andrew Taylor followed with a third-place finish in 4:19.48. The Sun Devil men won the 200 fly event thanks to the Canadian Filip Senc-Samardzic hitting the wall in 45.84 and Tommy Palmer placing second in 45.92. The women’s 200 free relay placed third in 1:30.28.
The men’s 200 free relay capped off the day with a 1-2 finish, hitting the wall in 1:15.52 and 1:15.71, respectively.
In diving, the team participated in platform diving as part of an exhibition. Kayden Hayes was second, scoring 244.60 points, hitting her own cut.
The Sun Devils will return to Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on Nov. 7. The women’s team will host UCLA at 3 p.m. MST and then host a dual against USC the next day at 11 a.m. MST.
