Several Devils Highlight Day 2 of Baldy CastilloSeveral Devils Highlight Day 2 of Baldy Castillo
TEMPE, Ariz. – After a historical first day at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Friday, the Sun Devil track and field squad bounced back with multiple personal bests and several impressive marks at Sun Angel Stadium.

Redshirt sophomore jumper Joey Bryant, senior jumper Keyasia Tibbs, and junior sprinters Drelan Bramwell and Shaunie Morrison highlighted the meet on Saturday afternoon.

"Overall, I think there are a lot of great things we can take away from this weekend as we continue to dive deeper into what we call our regular season," said head coach Greg Kraft. "Maggie obviously highlighted the weekend in the hammer throw, but we got to see several athletes in their primary events, and do well in their opening meet. It's a good first step."

In the men's high jump, Bryant was one of just two competitors to clear 2.14m (7-00), which ties his previous personal best in the event. That mark would have qualified him for the 2016 West Regional, as the qualifying clearance was set at 2.11m.

Over on the runway, Tibbs transitioned from the indoor long jump to outdoors. While she didn't hit a personal best in the first outdoor meet of the season, she did place 2nd with a leap of 5.87m (19-3.00).

Her fellow jumper, Morrison, placed sixth in the long jump, but showed what she's capable of in one of her primary events on the track. The junior clocked a 13.63 -- which is just .10 seconds off her personal best -- in the 100-meter hurdles for third place out of 28 competitor.

After blowing away his previous personal best in the 200-meter dash on Friday, Bramwell came back on Saturday to compete in the 400-meter dash and the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relays. In the individual event, the junior ran another personal best, surpassing his previous best of 47.54 with a 46.48 for second place overall. That time would have qualified him as well for the 2016 West Regional.

In the men's 4x100 relay, him, Brandon Hasson, Herb Polk and Ronny Hall clocked a 39.84 for third place. For comparison, the ASU 4x100 relay that qualified for the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships ran a 39.26 in the qualifying round followed by a 39.90 for 8th place in the country in the final.

On the north side of Joe Selleh Track, pole vaulters Kristiana Warth and Vanessa Davis each hit a new outdoor personal best at 3.70m (12-1.50).

The Devils are fortunate enough to sleep in their own beds for the next two weeks, as they host the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Invitational next weekend at Sun Angel Stadium beginning on Friday, March 24. Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Penn State travel to Tempe to represent the Big Ten, while ASU, Arizona, California and UCLA represent the Pac-12.
