SAN JOSE, Calif. – Two gymnasts earned scores of 9.900 or better as Sun Devil Gymnastics took second at a quad meet at San Jose State on Sunday afternoon with the highest road score of the year (195.950), beating the host team SJSU and Sacramento State while coming up short to Boise State.
Notable stats
- Arizona State (9-7) placed second at a quad meet for the second meet in a row after competing in two this weekend. ASU had two new season highs on their bar (49.075) and floor (49.250) rotations. The floor score is the highest across all events this season for ASU.
- The Sun Devils’ 195.950 was the highest road score of the year and second-highest overall team score of the season.
- Junior Reese Grolla set a new career high on bars with a 9.950, which was her first score of 9.900 or better of the season and first ever on bars. She also won the event title for bars, her second event title of her career on that event and third event title overall of the season.
- Junior Halle Gregoire’s 9.900 on the floor tied her for the event title. It also tied her career high and season high, this being her second time earning that score this year.
- The floor rotation was filled with success. Two Sun Devils tied their career highs on the floor: senior Kayla Lee with a 9.875 and sophomore Halle Braaflat with a 9.850.
- Lee continued her streak of 9.800s or above on beam this season, scoring a 9.825 to lead the team.
- Head coach Jay Santos reached 99 career wins with the two victories picked up today.

Rotation one: beam, 48.750
A couple of 9.700s on beam slowed the Sun Devils down but freshman Kylee Bromley’s 9.800 and Lee’s 9.825 helped to boost ASU.
Rotation two: floor, 49.250
The Sun Devils swiftly bounced back with Lee tying her career high of 9.875 on the floor in the lead-off spot. Lilia Purler followed with a 9.825 and Braaflat scored a 9.850, keeping the momentum going. The success did not stop there as Delanie Kelly earned a 9.800. This was ASU’s highest floor total all season.
Rotation three: vault, 48.875
Freshman Safia El Mammann started off vault strong with a 9.825. Kelly held down the middle of the rotation with a 9.800. A 9.825 from Smith helped ASU remain in second place.
Rotation four: bars, 49.075
Grolla opened up bars with a new career high of 9.950. Four scores in the 9.750 range held the Sun Devils back, but Smith earned a clutch 9.875 to earn the Sun Devils highest overall score on bars this season.
