TEMPE – On Wednesday, 24 student-athletes from the No. 2- and No. 17-ranked Arizona State swimming and diving teams were selected to compete in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
The women will compete from March 18 to March 21, before the men compete from March 25 to March 28 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
WOMEN:
Ten Sun Devils were selected to compete at the women’s swimming and diving championships, as freshman Albane Cachot, senior Deniz Ertan and sophomore Julia Ullmann qualified for multiple events.
Cachot will appear in the 50 free, 100 free and the 200 free. She won all three events at the Big 12 Championships. She also secured a meet record (47.42) in the 100 free and earned Women’s Swimming Newcomer of the Meet, while helping ASU win three relays throughout the week.
Ertan will swim in the 200 fly, 500 free and the 1650 free during the week. The senior won all three events at the Big 12 Championships, earning her Women’s Swimmer of the Meet honors.
Ullmann is set to compete in both butterfly events, the 100 fly and the 200 fly. She won the 100 fly - for the second consecutive year - in 51.97 at the Big 12 Championships two weeks ago.
Sophomore Jordan Greber will appear in her first NCAA Championship after posting a 1:56.85 in the 200 IM, while junior Alexa Reyna will participate in the 400 IM after winning the Big 12 title in 4:09.22. Junior Sonia Vaishnani will compete in the 200 IM after winning the Big 12 title in 1:57.16.
The women’s team qualified for all five relays: 800 free, 400 free, 200 medley, 200 free and the 400 medley. Juniors Miriam Sheehan and Grace Lindberg will compete in the relays along with seniors Gerda Szilagyi and Ginger McMahon.
MEN:
Fourteen Sun Devils were chosen for the men’s swimming and diving championships, with graduates Adam Chaney, Remi Fabiani, senior Andy Dobrzanski and junior Ilya Kharun selected to compete at multiple events starting Wednesday, March 25.
Chaney will compete in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events, which he won at the Big 12 Championships and set a meet record (1:38.33) in the 200 back. The graduate will also be one of five Sun Devils to appear in the 50 free.
Kharun, a three-time NCAA Championship selection, will swim in the 50 free, 100 fly and the 200 fly. The junior won a national title in the 200 fly as a freshman back in 2024. Coming into NCAAs, Kharun has the top time (18.40) in the 50 free.
Dobrzanski, an eight-time Big 12 champion, will appear in the 100 breast and 200 breast after successfully defending both of his titles at the Big 12 Championships.
Junior James Ewing will compete in the 200 back (1:39.00), while sophomore Michael Hochwalt qualified for the 400 IM after posting a season-best time of 3:40.02 at the Big 12 Championships. Sophomore Quin Seider will appear in the 100 free after swimming a qualifying time of 41.69.
Senior Jonny Kulow qualified for the 100 free with a 41.47, making his fourth NCAA championships appearance. Graduate Jordan Tiffany qualified for the 200 IM and sophomore Tolu Young will swim in the 50 free, posting an 18.72 qualifying time earlier in the season.
The men’s team qualified for all five relays and is projected to make the podium in all five events, after posting the top times in the nation in the 200 free relay (1:12.98), 400 medley relay (2:57.48) and the 400 free relay (2:42.15).
