PHOENIX - Sun Devil Baseball will look to gain momentum after sweeping Omaha in their season-opening series as they’ll take on UConn and St. John’s this week.

On Friday, Cole Carlon opened the season on a high note. He tossed five innings and only allowed one run, while the bullpen put on a strong effort for the remainder of the game, including Derek Schaefer tossing a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth.

On Saturday, it was a home run party for the Sun Devils. Matt Polk, Dominic Smaldino, and Dean Toigo each tallied a solo homer. Nu’u Contrades topped it all off with a grand slam to help ASU in their offensive surge.

On Sunday, the Sun Devils were down 0-4 going into the bottom of the third, as Brody Briggs got ASU on the board with a 2-run homer to right field. Dean Toigo added a homer in the sixth, to give him back-to-back games recording a home run. ASU clinched the lead and held on to win thanks to Beckett Zavorek’s two-run single.

The bullpen played a huge role in Sunday’s game to help the Sun Devils complete the sweep. Pitchers Eli Buxton, Sean Fitzpatrick, and Derek Schaefer each tossed scoreless innings.

The Sun Devils will look to stay undefeated as they welcome UConn and St John’s to Phoenix Municipal Stadium this upcoming week.

The Huskies are coming off a 0-3 week, losing to Nebraska in their first game of the season at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Red Storm is also coming off a tough week, going 1-3 to start their season, with their victory coming off in eight innings against Stetson, 11-7.

All games this week will be streamed on ESPN+. Friday’s contest will be available for listeners on KDUS AM 1060
