Raleek Brown scores vs. Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – Raleek Brown recorded a Sun Devil Football road rushing record and Arizona State pulled away down the stretch in a whacky one in Boulder for a 42-17 victory over Colorado on Saturday evening at Folsom Field.

Arizona State (8-3, 6-2 Big 12) was able to shake off a sloppy four turnover game thanks in large part to Brown’s 255 rushing yards and 288 all-purpose yards, which included an 88-yard touchdown run and a 33-yard touchdown reception. Brown’s 255 yards on the ground broke Ben Malone’s long-standing 1973 road record of 251 yards at Oregon State and put Brown over 1,000 yards for the season - the 11th-time in the last 15 seasons producing one.

The Sun Devil defense limited Colorado (3-8, 1-7) to just three points off of ASU’s four giveaways and held the Buffs to just 300 total yards of offense. Arizona State recorded 11 tackles for loss and four sacks while holding its fifth straight opponent under 25 points.

The Sun Devils scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to turn what was a one-possession game into a convincing victory - ASU’s first Big 12 win by more than one score this season. The decisive final frame saw the Sun Devils record 205 total yards of offense - ALL of which came on the ground.

With ASU leading 21-17, Brown fumbled on his lone blemish in the otherwise historic day on the last play of the third quarter and Colorado drove to the Arizona State 26-yardline looking to reclaim the lead early in the fourth. But the Buffaloes would fumble the ball in ASU territory and Brown redeemed himself immediately, taking the very next snap 88 yards to the house to kickstart the electric fourth quarter.

Kanye Udoh added a touchdown with 8:48 remaining to give the Sun Devils a comfortable 35-17 lead and Jason Brown would cap things off with his first career touchdown at the 1:20 mark remaining in the contest.

ASU finished with 355 rushing yards, a tally representing the eighth-highest single game mark since 1996 and the fourth-most in a road game. The Sun Devils had a season-best 580 yards of total offense - good for the 25th-best single game tally since the 1996 season and ninth-best in a road game.

Jesus Gomez opened the scoring with a 39-yard field goal to cap an eight-play, 59-yard drive on ASU’s second drive of the game. The drive included a 42-yard pass to Jordyn Tyson on third down, seeing his first action since the Oct. 18 win over Texas Tech.

ASU recorded four consecutive three-and-outs to open the game before Colorado broke through with a touchdown on the fifth drive to make it 7-3 heading into the quarter break. ASU fumbled a drive earlier, forced a fourth-down stop deep in ASU territory, but Colorado forced a quick punt and drove four plays and 57 yards.

The Sun Devils would finally find the end zone on a fourth-down wheel route in Colorado territory with Sims finding Brown down the sideline for a 33-yard touchdown reception to put ASU back on top, 10-7, with 3:19 left in the first half.

ASU added a 39-yard field goal with five seconds remaining in the half to take a 13-7 lead into the locker room but Colorado drove down the field and connected on a 22-yard touchdown reception on its first drive of the second half to reclaim a 14-13 advantage but ASU responded immediately with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Sims to Eusebio followed by a two-point conversion to Khamari Anderson to make it 21-14.

The Sun Devils now set their sights on the first Territorial Cup contest in a decade between a pair of eight win teams as the squad welcomes Arizona (8-3, 5-3) on Friday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. AZT on FOX.

Quick Hits

  • Punter Kanyon Floyd completed his third pass as a Sun Devil on a fake to Blazen Lono Wong in the second quarter. In doing so, he became just the 30th FBS punter since the 1996 season to complete three or more passes in their career (tied for 12th among all punters in that time).
  • Saturday marked the first time ASU had a 60+ yard rushing touchdown and 60+ yard passing touchdown in a game since the 70-7 victory over Arizona in 2020 and just the third game where ASU had one of each, period, since the 1996 season (2007 against Stanford).
  • The Sun Devils shut out a team in the fourth quarter for the third time in the last four games. It had held opponents scoreless in the fourth just once in its first seven games.
  • The Sun Devils have now won 16-straight games when leading at halftime, the longest active streak in the Big 12.
  • The Sun Devils are 17-8 when committing 6+ penalties compared to a 5-7 mark when it has less than six.
  • Kenny Dillingham moved to 9-3 in the month of November as head coach.

The ASU Victory…

  • Gave ASU consecutive eight-win seasons for the first time since 2013-14.
  • Kept the Sun Devils mathematically alive in the hunt for a spot in Big 12 Championship Game
  • Gave ASU a winning record in road games in consecutive seasons (3-2 in 2025 and 4-2 in 2024) for the first time since 2013 and 2014 (3-2 and 4-2). It would be just the fourth time accomplishing the feat in consecutive years since joining a Power Conference in 1978 (1981-82, 1996-97, 2013-14)

What Can Brown Do For You?

  • Raleek Brown rushed for a Sun Devil football road record 255 yards on Saturday, unseating Ben Malone’s 52-year-old record of 251 yards at Oregon State in 1973. It was the third-highest rushing total for a Sun Devil in a single game, period, behind Eno Benjamin’s 312 yards vs. Oregon State in 2018 and Cam Skattebo’s 262 vs. Mississippi State last season.
  • Only twice this season has a player rushed for over 250 yards on the road - coincidentally both occurring tonight between Brown and Kansas State’s Joe Jackson at Utah (293).
  • It was just the sixth time this season overall that a player rushed for over 250 yards in a game. It has only happened 11 times in the last two seasons, with ASU owning one of the other marks with Cam Skattebo’s Mississippi State effort last year.
  • Brown had a touchdown reception for the second consecutive game. It was the first time a Sun Devil running back had a receiving touchdown in back-to-back games since Xazavian Valladay in 2022 (Oct. 1 and Oct. 8) and just the 12th time it has happened since the 1996 season.
  • Brown notched 108 rushing yards in the first half alone, and 141 all-purpose yards in the half.
  • It was the first time a Sun Devil had 100+ rushing yards at halftime since Cam Skattebo’s 140 against Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship last season. It is the third time ASU has had a running back accomplish that feat in the past two seasons alone. Previously, ASU had not had a running back reach the mark since Rachaad White in 2021 and had done so just four times TOTAL between 2012 to 2023 (Eno Benjamin 2x in 2018, Rachaad White 1x in 2020 and 2021). The last time before Benjamin’s first in 2018 was Cam Marshall in November of 2011.
