TEMPE – Sun Devil Wrestling held the program’s annual Maroon and Gold scrimmage at Desert Financial Arena on Saturday afternoon for the opening of its 2025-26 campaign. Various wrestlers, like Pierson Manville, Nicco Ruiz and newcomer David Szuba, dazzled throughout victories to commence the new 2025-26 season.

There were a total of 12 duals in today’s showcase across all weight classes. The day started with the lightweight match between Damian Moreno and An’ee Vigil, where Moreno came out on top, 5-4. No. 32-ranked Pierson Manville debuted in the 141 weight class, where he earned a tech fall 18-2 win over Daniel Miranda. The 174-pound class match between Cael Valencia and Leo Tukhlynovych ended with Valencia taking the matchup 12-9. Newcomer heavyweight David Szuba faced an unorthodox triple-header against Max Acciardi, Damion Schunke, and his own brother, Ben Szuba, to end the scrimmage. David ended up winning 9-2 over Acciardi, tying 0-0 against Schunke, and falling to his brother, 5-3.

In the end, Maroon took the annual Maroon and Gold scrimmage, 21-13, in front of a lively Desert Financial Arena. The tune-up served as one of eight home events for the team this season, here in Tempe. Oklahoma State will be the next home match on Saturday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. MST at Desert Financial Arena.
