#10 Wrestling Hosts Little Rock for MMA Night, Travels to Oregon State

TEMPE - No. 10 Sun Devil Wrestling (4-4, 1-1 Pac-12) and Little Rock (3-7, 0-2 Pac-12) meet February 3 at 7:00 p.m. AZ in Mullett Arena. Then ASU will hit the road to face No. 20 Oregon State (6-5, 2-0 Pac-12) in Gili Coliseum on February 5 at 8:00 p.m. AZ. The Little Rock dual will air free on the ASU Live Stream, while the Pac-12 Network will stream the Oregon State dual.

Friday is MMA Night for Sun Devil Wrestling. The Sun Devils have invited several MMA and wrestling legends to Mullett Arena to be honored and celebrated, including Seth Baczynski, Courtney Casey, Efrain Escudero, Kelvin Gastelum, Kamuela Kirk, Drakkar Klose, John Moraga, Dan Moret, Thom Ortiz, Frankie Saenz, Roman Salazar, Dan Severn, Aaron Simpson. The first 200 fans in attendance will also receive a Sun Devil Wrestling MMA foam belt.
 
Following the match, two-time NCAA Division I All-American, Olympic alternate, and UFC Hall of Famer Dan Severn will be signing autographs just inside the main entrance of Mullett Arena (near the primary ticket booths on the ground floor).

The Sun Devils then earned big wins in the middle and upper weights from the reigning Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week Cael Valencia (174 lbs) and Tony Negron (165 lbs). No. 5 Colhton Schultz closed the match out with a narrow 3-2 decision over Lehigh's Nathan Taylor.
 
 
Scouting Arizona State

• ASU enters the weekend with five top-20 wrestlers on the roster: No. 8 Brandon Courtney, No.4 Michael McGee, No. 20 Jesse Vasquez, No. 5 Kyle Parco, and No. 5 Cohlton Schultz.
• The 125 battle continues for ASU, with both Courtney and Richard Figueroa on the travel party. Courtney, the '21 NCAA runner-up at 125, is 6-2 on the year. Figs, the No. 1 Pound-for-Pound recruit of the 2021 class, is a perfect 14-0 on the year with five dual wins to his name.
• Cohlton Schultz returned to the lineup against Stanford, picking up a fall in 56 seconds and following it up with a 3-2 decision over Lehigh's Nathan Taylor. He is currently 5-0 in duals on the season, and 20-0 over his career.
• Michael McGee (14-2) now sits just one victory away from 125 career wins after earning his 25th career tech fall against Stanford and his 53rd dual victory at Lehigh.
• ASU has now won its last two duals, thanks in large part to the consistency of McGee and Kyle Parco, who have stayed in the win column for five duals in a row, and Figueroa and Schultz, who are both sitting at 5-0 in duals this season. The Sun Devils have also benefited from picking up big wins in the upper weights from Cael Valencia against Stanford and Lehigh, and Tony Negron's victory against Lehigh.
• Arizona State has relied heavily on its lightweights this season, as 125, 133, and 149 are all 7-1 in duals this season. Vasquez and Schultz have each recorded five dual wins at 141 and 285, respectively, but no other class has more than three.

 
Scouting Little Rock

• Little Rock has a record of 3-7, outscoring opponents 118-8 in their three wins while giving up a 48-211 tally over their seven losses.
• The Trojans come into this matchup without a ranked wrestler, but have one honorable mention in 174 Triston Wills. The team has five ranked wins throughout this season, with Wills contributing two of them.
• HM Triston Wills has placed third at consecutive Pac-12 Championships, and was one of three Trojans to place in 2022, a Little Rock record. He has wrestled to a 13-6 record this season, with two tech falls and two major decisions.
• Josiah Hill (285 lbs) picked up two falls and a major decision en route to an 8-4 record this season, and has one of Little Rock's ranked wins over Knighton-Ward of Hofstra.
• Brothers Matty and Joseph Bianchi are both at .500 this season, with 9-9 and 8-8 records at 157 lbs and 149 lbs, respectively. Matty is coming off his first ranked win against No. 18 Charlie Darracott of Stanford. He has two major decisions and a fall on the season.

 
Scouting Oregon State

• Oregon State has a wrestler ranked in the top 20 in six out of 10 weight classes in the rankings released by FloWrestling/InterMat this week. Their lone wrestler in the top-10 is No. 6 Trey Munoz, who is wrestling in his second season since transferring from Arizona State where he compiled a 19-6 record. Munoz made it to the '22 NCAA Championships round of 12 after compiling a 24-5 record in his first season at Oregon State. This will be Munoz' second matchup against Arizona State, as he took down Josh Nummer by tech fall at last year's dual. 
• No. 11 Brandon Kaylor (125 lbs) has wrestled to a 17-6 record this year, with ranked wins over No. 10 Malik Heinselman and No. 12 Dean Peterson. He has two falls, a tech fall, and two major decisions on the season.
• At 141 lbs, No. 15 Cleveland Belton has ranked wins over No. 16 Parker Filius and No. 19 Malyke Hines leading to his current 15-6 record. With 10 bonus point victories on the season, Belton has racked up four falls, three tech falls, and three major decisions. Belton spent three seasons at Arizona State, but failed to find a victory in his three matches over that span.
