PHOENIX – Three Sun Devil Beach Volleyball pairs won their brackets at the pairs tournament portion of the Canyon Classic at GCU Stadium on Saturday.
The three pairs that won their bracket Lila Bordis and Maddy Salazar, Shane Burleson and Maia Nichols, and Malina Baker and Monaghan Cromeans. Bordis and Salazar were the highest-ranking duo for the Sun Devils to win their bracket, taking their match in three.
Another notable duo was the freshman pair of Taryn Ames and Kate Fitzgerald. They advanced to the finals of their bracket, coming up short in straight sets.
The pairs event featured gold and silver brackets with Arizona State, Arizona, Grand Canyon and Colorado Mesa all throwing in up to 10 pairs. The Sun Devils had nine pairs compete:
The Sand Devils will be in Tucson next weekend for a tournament on Arizona's campus. They will play three teams over the two-day event that begins on Saturday, March 6.
