SAN DIEGO, Calif.  – A two-run homer by San Diego in the bottom of the 10th inning sent Sun Devil Baseball to a 6-4 loss on Wednesday night at Fowler Park in San Diego, Calif.

A pair of two-run home runs by designated hitter Sebastian Zawada and first baseman David Greer in the first and third innings, respectively, staked the Sun Devils (31-18) an early 4-0 lead, but USD countered with three in the fifth and one in the seventh to knot the game.

Arizona State currently sits two back in the Pac-12 Conference standings with six games to play, including a road series at UCLA and a home set with USC.

Greer tallied a two-run homer and a base hit for his team-high 20th multi-hit game of the year, and right fielder Gage Canning drew a walk in the third inning to extend his streak of reaching base safely to a team-high 27 games, the longest streak at ASU since 2010.

Right-hander Chris Isbell (1-2) conceded the walk-off home run in extra-innings and took the loss. He did not allow a run across the seventh, eighth and ninth innings before the leadoff single and subsequent two-run homer in the 10th.

Shortstop Colby Woodmansee drew a two-out walk in the top of the first inning and Zawada capitalized with a two-run homer in the next at-bat to put ASU ahead, 2-0. Canning opened the third with a walk and Greer followed with his sixth home run and 30th extra-base hit of the year that stretched the team’s lead to four.

The Toreros (26-27) pulled within one, 4-3, behind a three-run fifth inning. A double and two hit batters loaded the bases and USD brought home all three runners on a two-run double and a RBI single in consecutive at-bats.

Isbell entered the game in the seventh with two on and no outs, and limited USD to just one base runner on an error-aided sacrifice fielder’s choice and one unearned run on a sacrifice fly. He delivered back-to-back strikeouts, one looking and one swinging, in the eighth to strand a Torero at second, and tossed a perfect ninth.

Left-handers Zach Dixon and Reagan Todd toed the mound for the first six innings. Dixon did not allow a run in 2 2/3 innings in his fifth start of the season as he conceded four base runners on two hits and a pair of walks. Todd was responsible for four runs, including three earned, and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings of relief. He inherited runners on the corners with two outs in the third inning and induced a fly ball to keep the Torreros off the board, and was replaced in the seventh after he walked the leadoff batter, who eventually came around to score the tying run.

Notes: Right-hander James Ryan faced one batter in the seventh.
