TEMPE, Ariz. -- The final day of the 20th annual Baldy Castillo Invitational featured several more personal bests for the Arizona State track and field with highlights in the women's 4x800 relay and women's discus.

The women's relay squad of graduate seniors Jen Owen and Madison Davis, redshirt junior Chelsey Totten and freshman Hannah Benoit-Bucher broke the meet record that was set 12 years ago in 2004. Their time of 8:57.59 broke the previous record by nearly eight seconds.

While the event isn't acknowledged by the NCAA as a national event, the execution and performance was not to be overlooked.

"It was the fact that they're getting in some good work at this time of the year," said distance coach Louie Quintana. "Knowing we probably won't run that relay again this year, but early in the season to come back after tonight and run really good today, it was a solid run. It continues to show how good this girls' distance team can run."

Just like the night before and throughout the track and field season, redshirt sophomore Magdalyn Ewen continued to demonstrate her capabilities as a young Devil. She defeated the two-time NCAA discus champion from Texas A&M with a first-place throw of 55.46m (181-11).

Also throwing with Ewen was senior Ginger Jarchow, who threw a new personal best and fourth-place toss at 52.12m (171-00).

In the running events, freshman Sydney Mosley was one of the highlights with a third-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.97.

On the men's side, redshirt senior Isaiah Underwood continues to make strides and is continuing his consistency into the outdoor season. He placed fifth in the men's 100-meter dash (10.36) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (21.12).

Arguably the highlight of the weekend for the men was freshman Hudson Keffer in the javelin throw. Director of track and field Greg Kraft and throwing coach David Dumble both raved about finally getting to see the rookie in action and he didn't disappoint. His fifth throw as a Sun Devil was a 71.52m (234-08), which puts him at fourth on the ASU all-time list.

While Kraft was already pleased enough to finally get to the outdoor season, his team's overall performance on the opening weekend provided glimpses of what is to come in 2016.
