On Oct. 10, 2014, Director of Arizona State Track and Field Greg Kraft announced the hiring of Otis McDaniel as an assistant sprints coach.
McDaniel, a dual-sport student-athlete at TCU in football and track, will help assistant coach Ronnie Williams with the sprinters. The San Antonio, Texas native spent the last two years as a volunteer assistant at the University of Alabama.
A four-time All-American on the track at TCU from 2006-09, McDaniel is a former PanAm Junior champion in the 200m, was the 2008 Mountain West Conference champion in the 200, and was a contributor on TCU's 4x100-meter relay unit that was regularly ranked among the world's fastest quartets.
McDaniel graduated from William Howard Taft High School in San Antonio in 2004. At Taft, McDaniel lettered three times in football and three times in track & field and was the 2004 Texas 5A state champion in the 200 meters and finished third in the state 100-meter dash in 2003 with a time of 10.52. McDaniel was named the San Antonio Express-News 2003 Field Athlete of the Year and was a finalist for the Track Athlete of the Year honors.
