TEMPE – Sun Devil Gymnastics will look to finish their stretch of five-straight meets on the road against in-state rival Arizona this Friday at 6 p.m. MST at the McKale Center.
This is Arizona State’s final road meet of the regular season before they return to Desert Financial Arena for the Senior Day Tri-Meet on March 15.

Sun Devil outlook
Arizona State (9-7, 2-2 Big 12)
- The Sun Devils are coming off of two second-place finishes at quad meets on the road this weekend. The most recent score was a 195.950 on Sunday (the second-highest team score this season), preceded by a 195.475 on Friday.
- In their Sunday meet against Boise State, Sacramento State and San Jose State, the team recorded two new season highs on bars (49.075) and floor (49.250).
- At SJSU, junior Reese Grolla set a new career high on bars with a 9.950, winning her the event title. It also is the highest individual score by a Gym Devil this season.
- Three Sun Devils tied their career highs on the floor over the weekend. Junior Halle Gregoire tied her 9.900 (winning the event title), senior Kayla Lee tied her 9.875 and sophomore Halle Braaflat tied her 9.850.
- On vault, two Gym Devils earned new personal bests at the TWU quad meet. Junior Lilia Purler stuck her vault for a 9.900, the highest vault score of the year as well as her career high, to win the title. Senior Kimberly Smith also stuck her vault to earn a 9.875, a new career high.
- Smith was announced earlier this week as a nominee for the AAI Award, which recognizes top senior gymnasts.
- A win this weekend would earn head coach Jay Santos his 100th career win.
Opponent outlook
Arizona (4-10, 1-3 Big 12)
- Arizona is 17-37-1 against ASU in the rivalry series record. The last time the Wildcats and Sun Devils faced in the regular season, Arizona won in Tempe 196.650 to 195.750. Prior to that, the Sun Devils boasted a win streak of eight-straight dual meets beginning in 2017.
- The Wildcats are coming off of a fourth place road loss this weekend at the Purple and Gold Podium Challenge. They scored 195.000 against host No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Alabama and North Carolina.
- Last season Arizona made a run in the postseason, placing second in the NCAA Regional in Seattle to advance to the NCAA Regional Final, where the Wildcats would place fourth.
