PERIOD BREAKDOWN
First Period
The first 10 minutes of the period were quiet for both teams looking to strike first. In storybook fashion, Cole Gordon tallied the first goal of the game in a scrum in front of the Miami netminder after entering the lineup with only 60 minutes notice after a pregame injury to Benji Eckerle. Gordon was initially a healthy scratch going into the matchup. He was assisted by Kyle Smolen and Brasen Boser. ASU led the shot chart 7-6 over Miami and killed off one power play opportunity for the RedHawks after a penalty on Cruz Lucius for hooking.

Second Period
Ninety seconds into the frame, Lucius was assessed his second penalty of the night, putting the Sun Devils on a kill early. Down a man proved to be no issue for a Sun Devil special teams that has trended upward over the past stretch of games as Bennett Schimek tallied a shorthanded goal to put the Sun Devils up 2-0. It was Schimek's third shortie of the season and he was assisted by Artem Shlane and Joel Kjellberg

Shortly after the six-minute mark, Miami committed a major penalty for hitting from behind, giving ASU a five-minute power play. The Sun Devils cashed in with two goals from Ryan Kirwan to extend his NCHC lead of 18 goals scored on the season. On both goals he was assisted by Lukas Sillinger and Artem Shlaine. The two assists boosted Sillinger's ASU career assists to 69 which set a new program record.
