Sun Devil Track & Field Shines in Season-Opening Meets in College Station, FlagstaffSun Devil Track & Field Shines in Season-Opening Meets in College Station, Flagstaff

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Track & Field shined in its season-opening meets at the McFerrin 12-Degree Invite (College Station, Texas) and the NAU Axe 'Em Open (Flagstaff, Arizona), as it tallied three titles and 16 top-three finishes on Friday.

The Sun Devils won a trio of events at Texas A&M's McFerrin 12-Degree Invite -- all from newcomers this season via Evaline Chepkoech (women's mile), Dennis Rono (men's mile) and Alexia Schofield (women's 300m). Schofield's day didn't stop there, as she also took third in the women's triple jump and was on the Sun Devils' third-place 4x400 relay.

Schofield and the Sun Devils jumpers had a fantastic outing in College Station, as five totaled top-four finishes. In addition to Schofield in the long jump, the Sun Devils were also boosted by Josie Coffey in the high jump (2nd), Tiera Robinson-Jones in the triple jump (2nd), Myla Tate in the triple jump (3rd) and Alex Johnson in the long jump (4th).

Sophomore Jayden Davis, who pieced together a phenomenal freshman campaign a season ago, was third in the men's 300m (33.18) and also was a member of the runner-up 4x400 relay.

Eight Sun Devil throwers made the trek to Flagstaff, as they were powered by runner-up efforts by Brandon Lloyd and Ines Lopez in the shot put.

Young talent thrived -- like Mateo Medina, Malik Franklin, Chepkoech and Rono -- in addition to the veteran leadership the Sun Devils returned in Adriana Tatum, Alex Johnson, Ines Lopez and Brandon Lloyd. It served as an extremely promising opening night for sixth-year program director Dion Miller.
