FEDERAL WAY, Wash.- It was an eventful first day for the Sun Devil men on Day 1 as they made history by breaking the NCAA record in the 200 medley relay, followed by a meet record in the 800 free relay.
 
Jack Dolan, Léon Marchand, Ilya Kharun and Jonny Kulow opened the meet with an NCAA record time of 1:20.55 to win the 200 medley relay as the Sun Devils are back-to-back Pac-12 champions in this event.

200 medley relay: Jack Dolan, Léon Marchand, Ilya Kharun and Jonny Kulow, 1:20.55/March 6, 2024 at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships
200 individual medley: Léon Marchand, 1:36.34/March 23, 2023 at the 2023 NCAA Championships
400 individual medley: Léon Marchand, 3:28.82/March 24, 20233 at the 2023 NCAA Championships 
200 breast: Léon Marchand, 1:46.91/March 25, 2023 at the 2023 NCAA Championships
 
Less than an hour later, the 800 free relay of Marchand, Patrick Sammon, Owen McDonald and Julian Hill swam a time of 6:06.14– good for a meet record and the fastest time in the country.
 
Marchand's leadoff time in the 800 free relay of 1:30.43 is the fastest time in the nation this season.
 
The Sun Devils are well-positioned to contend for their second conference title in a row this week in Federal Way as they won their first conference title in program history a season ago.
 
The Sun Devils finish Day 1 in fourth place in the team standings, which are combined with men's diving scores from last week.

The Sun Devils have won the 800 free relay in each of the last three seasons with Hill and Marchand each being a part of each of those three championships while Sammon repeated as a champion in the event and McDonald won his first conference championship.
 
In the first event of the evening, Marchand, Dolan and Kulow each repeated as the 200 medley Pac-12 champions while Kharun won his first Pac-12 championship in his conference championship debut.
