HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Sun Devil Women's Golf got off to a tremendous start at the 2024 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate hosted at Long Cove Club.

No. 20 Arizona State is in first place after one round at arguably the most prestigious women's collegiate golf event of the season, featuring live television coverage from GOLF Channel. Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team came out on a mission, posting a 278 (-6), the lowest round ever by Arizona State at the event. Thanks to their outstanding play, ASU sits in first place by three strokes in a field filled with Top-10 and Top-25 teams.

Individually, Arizona State was led by Grace Summerhays and Patience Rhodes, who are tied for third following 18 holes after recording 68s (-3). The duo set the tone for the Maroon & Gold and find themselves just one stroke back of the overall lead. Ashley Menne and Beth Coulter each shot a 71 (E) and currently sit tied for 21st, giving the Sun Devils four individuals in the Top-25 with extremely solid counting scores. ASU is back in action tomorrow starting at 9 AM MST, with live coverage provided by GOLF Channel starting at 12:30 PM MST.

QUOTABLES
"Coach Tatman and I are really happy with how the team performed today," Coach Farr-Kaye remarked after the round. "They have been working very hard on a lot of different things. Emotional management on the golf course, staying present, and remaining positive. The work they have been doing on their short game really showed up today, which was wonderful to see. Extremely satisfied with the ladies. I'm glad they got to see the fruits of their labor today."

"Day one down, two more days to go," Coach Farr-Kaye added. "We have to take it one day at a time right now. It is exciting to see this team start to believe in themselves as much as Coach Tatman and I believe in them."

"I thought that the most important past was to hit into the right area of the green, so I executed that plan and then converted those 12 foot and under birdies," redshirt freshman Patience Rhodes remarked following her 68 (-3). "I am just playing my own game which is focusing on a relaxed swing and playing smart around this course."

Four of the five teams that finished ahead of them are ranked in the Top-10. Three Sun Devils finished in the Top-25 of the individual race, led by Ashley Menne. Menne had the best round of any Sun Devil throughout the three days, delivering a 69 (-2) to cap teh event. She made a jump up the standings for the second consecutive day, eventually finishing in a tie for 13th. Not far behind was Paula Schulz-Hanssen, who continued her strong play by finishing tied for 16th. Beth Coulter was the third Sun Devil in the Top-25 in a field that boasted 23 of the Top-52 and 41 of the Top-100 golfers in the latest Golfstat rankings.

In 2022, Calynne Rosholt and Alexandra Forsterling led the way individually for the Sun Devils, each finishing in the Top-10 at the Darius Rucker. Rosholt set the pace by tying for third place, with Forsterling not far behind her teammate finishing in a tie for sixth.

The Sun Devils have finished fourth or higher three times, including third-place finishes in 2022 & 2017. Linnea Strom finished second, while Sophia Zeeb claimed third place individually in 2017.
