TEMPE - Sun Devil Women's Golf is set to compete in the Dual in the Desert, hosted at Papago Golf Club by the University of Denver.

No. 23 Arizona State will take on the Pioneers in a one-day, match play style event beginning Sunday, Feb. 25 at 7:27 AM MST. All six Sun Devils will have the chance to participate in the competition held at a place familiar to the Maroon & Gold.

COACH'S CORNER
"This is another great opportunity for our entire team to get experience in Match Play," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye mentioned. "We are excited to get to play Papago and have an event in our home State. Our team continues to get better every time they get the chance to compete."

SUN DEVILS IN THE RANKINGS
Clipp'd, backed by the NCAA, introduced their first edition of the 2024 Collegiate Golf Rankings earlier in the year. Arizona State is currently No. 23 in the team rankings after moving up three spots thanks to the win over then-No. 20 Pepperdine. Here is where the Sun Devils' rank in the latest Clipp'd Individual Rankings:

No. 44 Ashley Menne
No. 111 Paula Schulz-Hanssen
No. 135 Patience Rhodes
No. 172 Beth Coulter
No. 175 Grace Summerhays
No. 311 Calynne Rosholt

THE FORMAT
The Dual in the Desert will compete in six individual matches, with two matches taking place simultaneously in three separate groups. The first group featuring two individual matches will tee-off at 7:27 AM, followed by the second group at 7:36 AM and lastly the third final group at 7:45 AM. A winner will be determined by whichever team accumulates the most points after the completion of six matches.

Calynne Rosholt (ASU) vs. Katy Dracarova (Denver)

LAST TIME OUT
The Sun Devils are returning from the Therese Hession Regional Challenge. The tournament, which was originally scheduled for three stroke-play rounds from Feb. 4-6, was moved up a day due to the weather conditions. The format was also switched from traditional stroke-play to a bracket-style Match Play setup. Arizona State faced off with Pepperdine in their only match on Sunday, taking down the No. 20-ranked Waves in impressive fashion. The Maroon and Gold won 4.5 of the potential 5 points that were up for grabs thanks to four victories and one tie.

Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team gained valuable experience competing in their first Match Play event of the season. The NCAA Championship is decided via Match Play, giving the Sun Devils a glimpse of what would come should they make an end-of-the-season run. Not only was the format change beneficial, the competition present at the event was also fierce. ASU took on a Top-10 Texas team in the first round followed by tournament host Ohio State, who is also ranked in the Top-50. They managed to knock off No. 20 Pepperdine, who made it to NCAA Championship Match Play a season ago.

THE COURSE
Originally built in 1963, Papago Golf Club was one of the original Valley golf courses and has been an asset to the Phoenix public-golf community. Designed by well-known and esteemed golf course architect William Francis (Billy) Bell. The course provides spectacular views of Phoenix from its unique, strategic setting at the base of Papago Buttes. Despite its convenient central location, golfers experience a setting rich with the native elements that make Arizona a unique state.

The home of Sun Devil Men's and Women's Golf was named the Arizona Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) of Arizona in 2021. The annual host venue of both the ASU/PING Invitational and Thunderbird Collegiate has long been considered one of the top courses in the state with recent renovations only improving the quality of the conditions.
