STANFORD, Calif.-- No. 1/19 Sun Devil Swim and Dive opened its trip to the Bay Area in a conference meet with the No. 9/10 Stanford Cardinal. The Sun Devil opened the weekend with a victory over the Cardinal men, while the Sun Devil women fell to the Cardinal women.

SUN DEVIL NOTABLES
  • After breaking his own school record against GCU on January 6, Zalan Sarkany broke the 1000 free record again as he swam a 8:38.13 against the Cardinal. Sarkany additionally won the 500 free with a time of 4:13.95.
  • Another Sun Devil to break their own school record was Ilya Kharun as he swam a 1:37.93 in the 200 fly today, breaking a record he set previously in November. Kharun additionally was a part of the winning 200 medley relay to begin the meet for the Sun Devil men.
  • Jonny Kulow, Hubert Kós and Léon Marchand each won multiple events this afternoon against the Cardinal. Kulow, Kós and Marchand all were a part of the winning 200 medley relay. Kulow won the 50 free and 100 free, Kós swept the backstroke events and Marchand swept the breaststroke events and won the 200 IM.
  • With her time today, Deniz Ertan now owns the second and third fastest times in the 1000 free in program history as she swam a 9:33.75 this afternoon.
  • With a time of 1:52.61 in the 200 fly today, Lindsay Looney swam the second fastest time in the event in program history and has all top-10 times in the 200 fly for the program.
 
Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay
The relay of Katrina Marty-Zoe Summar-Lindsay Looney-Erin Milligan took second and third place went to Charli Brown-Iza Adame-Hannah Hurleman-Indigo Armon.
 
Men's 200 Yard Medley Relay
Hubert Kós-Léon Marchand-Ilya Kharun-Jonny Kulow won with a 1:22.24 finish and the relay of Jack Dolan-John Heaphy-Owen McDonald-Cam Peel took third in the opening event of the meet.
 
Women's 1000 Yard Freestyle
Deniz Ertan took second with a time of 9:33.75 with Alexa Reyna taking third to round out the top three.
 
Men's 1000 Yard Freestyle
Sarkany broke his own school record as he won the race by 13 seconds with a time of 8:38.13 and demolished the record he set just a little under two weeks ago against GCU.
 
Women's 200 Yard Freestyle
Ieva Maluka took third with a time of 1:44.18, which now enters the top-10 for 200 free times in program history.
 
Men's 200 Yard Freestyle
Patrick Sammon was second and Tiago Behar was third. Sammon had a time of 1:33.03 and Behar had a 1:33.67.
 
Women's 100 Yard Backstroke
Katrina Marty led the Sun Devil women to a second place finish with a 53.40. Not far behind was Brown, who took third with a 53.45, and Athena Clayson rounded out the top five.
 
Men's 100 Yard Backstroke
It was a 1-2 finish as Kós won the event with a 45.28 and McDonald in second with a 45.86 for the Sun Devil men.
 
Women's 100 Yard Breast
Zoe Summar finished third with a 1:00.96 finish with Ginger McMahon and Emma Gehlert rounding out the top five.
 
Men's 100 Yard Breast
Marchand won the event with a 51.46 finish with David Schlicht and Andy Dobrzanski finishing in the top five.
 
Women's 200 Yard Butterfly
Looney finished first with a 1:52.61 finish and Jade Foelske took fifth for the Sun Devil women.
 
Men's 200 Yard Butterfly
Kharun had a school record setting time of 1:37.93 to win the event and Alex Colson finished third with a time of 1:42.74. With Kharun's time, he broke his own school record that he set in November.
 
Women's 50 Yard Freestyle
Milligan took second place as she swam a 22.48 and Indigo Armon took fourth swimming a time of 22.77.
 
Men's 50 Yard Freestyle
Jonny Kulow and Jack Dolan posted times of 19.19 and 19.46, respectively, to win the event and take second going into the intermission.
 
Women's 100 Yard Freestyle
The Sun Devil women's highest finisher in this event was Milligan, who swam the event in 48.92 to place third overall.
 
Men's 100 Yard Freestyle
Kulow and Sammon went 1-2 with times of 42.44 and 42.90 coming out of intermission for the Sun Devil men.
 
Women's 200 Yard Backstroke
Brown and Clayson took the second and third place spots with times of 1:57.22 and 1:59.28, respectively.
 
Men's 200 Yard Backstroke
Kós sweeps the backstroke events as he swims a 1:38.96 and McDonald takes second swimming a time of 1:41.00.
 
Women's 200 Yard Breaststroke
Summar and Emma Gehlert went two-three with times of 2:11.57 and 2:11.76 for the Sun Devil women.
 
Men's 200 Yard Breastroke
Marchand officially swept the breaststroke events, swimming a 1:51.71 with Schlicht and Cale Martter rounding out the top three to give the Sun Devil men a 42-point advantage at this point.
 
Women's 500 Yard Freestyle
Ertan had a second place finish with a time of 4:42.24 with Reyna and Elli Straume rounding out the top five.
 
Men's 500 Yard Freestyle
Sarkany won his second event of the day with a 4:13.95 finish and Julian Hill was in third with a time of 4:19.11.
 
Women's 100 Yard Butterfly
Looney took second with a time of 52.84 and Foelske took fourth with a 53.75 to round out butterfly events for the Sun Devil women.
 
Men's 100 Yard Butterfly
Kharun finished second with a time of 44.72.
 
Women's 200 Yard IM
Maluka took second with a 1:55.93 and Brown took third with a 1:57.83 finish.
 
Men's 200 Yard IM
Marchand won his third individual event of the day with a 1:38.78 finish with Kós in second with a 1:42.22.
 
Women's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay
The relay of Milligan-Looney-Armon-Maluka finished third with a time of 3:17.84.
 
Men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay
To finish out the meet, Tiago Behar-Patrick Sammon-Ilya Kharun-Jonny Kulow took second with a time of 2:49.30.
 
Diving Events
In the women's 3-meter, Kayden Hayes finished second, scoring a 266.78 and Ashlyn Kirsch took third with a score of 244.43.
 
In the men's 1-meter, Lane Stallworth was the top finisher as he scored a 282.75 and placed third.
 
In the women's 1-meter, Hayes took third with a score of 235.20 and Kirsch took fourth with a 223.73 finish.
 
In the men's 3-meter, Zachory Lundgren finished second with a score of 356.85 and Stallworth finished third with a score of 335.70.
