TEMPE - Desert Financial Arena will be popping Friday night when No. 8 Sun Devil Wrestling and No. 20 Sun Devil Gymnastics come together to host their Beauty and the Beast joint-match at 7:00 p.m. AZ. Wrestling hosts Pac-12 foe Cal Poly, while Gymnastics hosts No. 19 Stanford. Despite the meets going off side-by-side, they'll have separate free live streams. Fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from the athletes following the match.

PARKING NOTICE
Sun Devil Hockey hosts RIT at 7:00 p.m. January 20 in Mullett Arena. Fans coming to Desert Financial Arena for Beauty and the Beast must enter the Lot 59 parking lot through the north entrance off of Rio Salado Parkway. No other side entrances off of Packard Drive will be open due to the hockey traffic flow.

Kyle Parco will face the biggest challenge this weekend, facing two All-Americans in Cal Poly's No. 20 Dom Demas and Stanford's No. 11 Jaden Abas. Parco is 5-0 against Cal Poly over his career, with three wins coming against Legend Lamer, who will now be wrestling Tony Negron or Rene Fragoso at 165 lbs. Negron or Fragoso will also face Stanford's other All-American, No. 4 Shane Griffith, the '21 NCAA Champion.
 
At 197 lbs, Kordell Norfleet, a 4x Pac-12 Champion and 4x NCAA qualifier, or Jonathan Fagen will face No. 8 Bernie Truax of Cal Poly,  the '21 Pac-12 Champion at 174 lbs and 3x NCAA qualifier, and Stanford's No. 25 Nick Stemmet, a '21 NCAA qualifier.
 
Michael McGee and Stanford's Jackson DiSario faced off twice at 133 lbs last year, with McGee taking a 17-1 tech fall victory in the ASU/Stanford dual before winning 11-4 in the Pac-12 Championships. Kyle Parco and Colhton Schultz both earned respective major decisions against Stanford's '21 All-American Jaden Abas and Peter Ming. 125 lbs will see either No. 6 Brandon Courtney or 12-0 Richard Figueroa take the mat against No. 31 Nico Provo.
 
ASU Notables:
  • Arizona State is currently ranked No. 9 on FloWrestling and No. 12 on InterMat. The NWCA Coaches Poll has the Sun Devils at No. 10.
 
  • Richard Figueroa (125 lbs) recorded his 12th consecutive victory this season in Princeton extra matches on Sunday and remains undefeated for the Sun Devils. He won the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational back in early December.
 
  • Michael McGee was the highlight of ASU's dual against Princeton with a 20-3 tech fall in 4:10.  He's currently 11-2 this season, with seven bonus-point victories.
 
  • No. 5 Kyle Parco upset No. 3 Paniro Johnson in an unbelievable 7-5 sudden victory final in the Iowa State dual, and followed up with a 12-5 decision against Princeton. Parco now has 14  wins on the season, the most wins on the Sun Devils' roster this season.
 
  • No. 4 Michael McGee, No. 15 Jesse Vasquez and No. 5 Kyle Parco all took victories in the 133, 141 and 149 classes on Sunday. All three of them are on two-match winning streaks.
 
  • Dating back to 2001, ASU has a 14-2 head-to-head record against Cal Poly, with the last recorded meeting between the two being January 24, 2022 where the Devils defeated the Mustangs 20-18.
 
Cal Poly Notables
 
  • The Mustangs hold a 3-6 record this season. They have dropped three matches in a row to Michigan, Air Force and Northern Colorado.
 
  • Cal Poly has two wrestlers in the top-20 being No. 20 Dominick Demas of the 149 class and No. 8 Bernie Truax of the 197 class.
 
  • In Cal Poly's 25-9 defeat to Northern Colorado on Sunday, only No. 129 Ethan Rotondo, No. 140 Jarad Priest and No. 46 Trevor Tinker were victorious in the 133, 184 and HWT classes.
 
  • In 16 meetings with the Sun Devils since 2001, the Mustangs have only recorded two wins in that span. The last victory came on February 5, 2010 where the Mustangs defeated the Sun Devils 20-18 in San Luis Obispo.
 
  • Cal Poly is ranked No. 28 in dual matches this season. They look to climb the ladder when they face No. 8 Arizona State on Friday.
 
Stanford Notables
 
  • Stanford is currently 3-3 on the season and is coming off a 16-15 victory against the University of Penn this past Sunday.
 
  • Stanford currently has four wrestlers representing the top-25 with No. 25 Nick Stemmet, No. 23 Tyler Eischens, No. 11 Jaden Abas and No. 4 Shane Griffith representing the 197, 174, 149 and 165 weight classes.
 
  • Redshirt Junior Jaden Abas is just the second freshman NCAA All-American in program history, which he acquired back in 2021. Abas and Shane Griffith are the only NCAA All-Americans on this current Cardinal roster.
 
  • The meeting between Arizona State will be Stanford's first matchup against a Pac-12 opponent this season. Dating back to 2005, the Cardinal have a 8-9 head-to-head record against the Sun Devils. The last victory dates back to February 2, 2019 where the Cardinal defeated the Sun Devils 21-15.
 
  • This season Stanford has only faced two top-20 opponents and lost both of them: No. 10 Virginia Tech 22-12 and No. 20 North Dakota State 18-17.
