SAN FRANCISCO – Sun Devil Women's Golf's Alexandra Forsterling has been recognized as the 2022 Pac-12 Women's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year, the conference announced earlier today.

Forsterling is in the midst of one of the most prolific seasons in program history and she continues to add to her growing resume before the season has even come to a close.

"This award is a fantastic achievement for Alexandra," Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye exclaimed, "She follows in the footsteps of many great Sun Devils in receiving this award. Alexandra has worked extremely hard in the classroom over these past 4 years and I could not be more proud of her!"

Through her first three years with the Sun Devil Women's Golf program, Alexandra Forsterling was a consistent presence in the lineup, performing admirably for a Top-10 Arizona State team. During a breakout senior campaign, she has taken her game to another level, becoming one of the best golfers in the nation. She is doing all this while maintaining a 3.95 GPA and pursuing her passion in Film, epitomizing the ideal student-athlete.

The No. 2-ranked golfer in the nation (top-ranked Senior) has been named to the ANNIKA Award Watch List as one of the finalist for National Player of the Year. She also recently competed in the most prestigious amateur event in the sport, participating at iconic Augusta National Golf Course as a part of the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

Forsterling has not finished lower than 16th in any of her 10 tournaments, despite the fact that the Sun Devils have faced one of the nation's toughest schedules. The highlight of her season was winning the Individual Title at the PING/ASU Invitational back in March, beating out a field with 25 of the Top-100 ranked golfers, including the nation's No. 1. Forsterling has also recorded Top-10 finishes at the Stanford Intercollegiate, Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, and the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. She is the senior leader on the No. 7-ranked team and one of the favorites to win the NCAA Women's Golf Championship.

Not only has she achieved great things on the course, but she has also led by example with her performance in the classroom. She has made the ASU Dean's List in each of her seven semesters and is on track to go 8-for-8 (Fall 2018, Spring 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021, Fall 2021). She has been a member of the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll each of her first three seasons and qualifies yet again for the distinction this Spring.

Forsterling is the seventh recipient of the honor from Sun Devil Women's Golf, the most of any athletic program at ASU. That is five more than the next highest school, as Arizona State has claimed 7 of the 14 possible awards. Arizona State now has a total of 39 Pac-12 Scholar Athletes of the Year, the second-highest total in the conference trailing only Stanford. This is the second consecutive year a Sun Devil has been the Pac-12 Women's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year, with Olivia Mehaffey accomplishing the feat last year.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
No. 7 Sun Devil Women's Golf is competing at the 2022 Pac-12 Championship, hosted at Eugene Country Club in Oregon.

Arizona State is in the midst of arguably the toughest tournament they have played in so far, as the nation's most competitive conference hosts its annual championship. The event spans three days, with 54-hole stroke play competition taking place at Eugene Country Club for the fourth time.

Not only is the Pac-12 Championship on the line, but rivalry bragging rights are as well. The highest finisher between Arizona State and Arizona at this event will be awarded a critical Territorial Cup Series point. ASU claimed the point last year by virtue of a third-place finish.
