Jimenez Named Pac-12 Women?s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year

BOULDER, Colo.—Arizona State’s Noemi Jimenez was named the Pac-12 Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced Sunday evening prior to the start of the Pac-12 Women’s Golf Championships in Boulder.  The award was established to honor collegiate student-athletes who are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

Jimenez is an Interdisciplinary Studies major with concentrations in Business and Tourism Development & Management.  She holds a 3.8 cumulative GPA and has been on the Pac-12 All-Academic 1st Team every year she has been eligible.  Jimenez is a two-time Women’s Golf Coaches Association Scholar All-American and has been selected to the Dean’s List six times in her career.

A Malaga, Spain native, Jimenez has also been a consistent achiever for her team. In her senior season she recorded four top-10 finishes, including fifth-place finishes at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, and the 2015 Clover Cup. The two-time All-American took home the individual NCAA West Regional title last season, and shot a career-low 66 in the final round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.  The Sun Devil is currently ranked 24th in the nation with a 72.79 scoring average.

In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport, and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.  Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in the voting for the award.

A Scholar-Athlete of the Year is named in each of the Pac-12’s 22 sponsored sports.  The awards were established during the 2007-08 academic year.

Other nominees included: Andrea Vilarasau, ARIZ; Cali Hipp, ORE; Mariko Tumangan, STAN; Erynne Lee, UCLA; Jennifer Yang, WASH; Kristen Rue, WSU.
