Noennig Takes NCAA Lead in Shot Put

FLAGSTAFF – Week two sent the Sun Devil track and field squads back up the hill and into the Walkup Skydome where once again ASU managed to have a good day, this time at the Lumberjack Invitational.

Just like last week, Turner Washington notched a win in the men's shot put and Kaylee Antill grabbed the top spot in the women's weight throw. While last weekend's second-place finish for reigning national champion Samantha Noennig was uncharacteristic, she bounced back in a big way Friday night when she won the women's shot put.

Noennig smashed her season's best mark from a week ago by three feet and threw the shot 17.08m/56-0.5 feet. The mark gave the NCAA-lead in the event by one centimeter.

Antonio Mitchell won the men's 60-meter dash in 6.74 seconds, and Marcus Reaves finished just behind the newcomer in second.

In the men's pole vault, Michael Chadwick grabbed second after a jump-off at 4.85m/15-11.0 feet. Freshman Luke Hagaman came in third.

Tommi Hintnaus grabbed silver in the women's pole vault and Myka Steinbeisser grabbed fifth, but both Devils cleared season-high bars of 3.81m/12-6.0 feet.

The Sun Devils will leave the state for the first time this season next weekend as they head east to the Bluegrass State for the Rod McCravy Memorial at the University of Kentucky.
