CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A trio of Sun Devil Women's Golf student-athletes were selected as All-American Scholars, the WGCA announced earlier this week.

Senior Sofia Anokhina, Junior Olivia Mehaffey, and Freshman Alexandra Forsterling were all recognized for their efforts and achievements in the classroom. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, guidelines that make it one of most prestigious Academic All-American Teams in collegiate athletics.

For the 1?4?th consecutive year, at least one member of the @SunDevilWGolf program has been named a All-American Scholar!

This is the 14th consecutive year that at least one Sun Devil was named an All-American Scholar. In total, the Arizona State Women's Golf program has had 64 individuals earn the academic distinction since the National Golf Coaches Association established the annual award in 1988, with 16 of those coming since Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye took over prior to the 2015-16 season. A year after having the most All-American Scholars in the conference, the Sun Devils yet again occupy the top spot, with their three selections tied for the lead in the Pac-12 Conference with Washington State.

Despite transferring from NAU to play her senior season in Tempe, Sofia Anokhina did not miss a beat in the classroom, leading to her being named an All-American Scholar for the fourth consecutive year. She competed in eight tournaments in her only season as a Sun Devil in addition to an appearance in the innagural Augusta National Women's Amateur, where she became the first Russian-born golfer to play Augusta National. After graduating from Arizona State in the Spring, Anokhina has since been named an ambassador for the Skolkovo Golf Club in Moscow, Russia. She is currently competing with Russia, her native country, in the 2019 European Ladies' Team Championship in Italy.

Junior Olivia Mehaffey enjoyed plenty of success on and off the field this season, and she was recognized accordingly. Already having secured Second Team All-American honors from the WGCA after winning three tournaments and a Pac-12 Championship, Mehaffey was named an All-American Scholar for the second consecutive season. This is the second academic distinction in 2019 for the ANNIKA Award finalist, as she was also selected to the Pac-12 Conference All-Academic Second Team.

Transition into college can be tough enough, let alone when arriving from another country. Freshman Alexandra Forsterling made it look easy, as she hit the ground running both academically and athletically. The Berlin native played in 11 of 12 tournaments this season, finishing in the Top-20 on four different occasions while posting three rounds in the 60s. She immediately thrived in the classroom, managing to juggle the difficulties of adjusting to the busy schedule of a student-athlete.

Arizona State will have to find a way to replace two extremely important members of the program, with two seniors Sofia Anokhina and Madison Kerley wrapping up their collegiate careers. A combination of a highly-regarded incoming recruiting class and improvement from returners give fans plenty to be excited about when it comes to the future of Sun Devil Women's Golf.
