National Champion @SunDevilTri Adds Four to Incoming Class

TEMPE, Ariz. – Head coach Cliff English has announced the signing of four future Sun Devils to join the reigning national champion Arizona State women's triathlon team in the fall of 2017.
 
After winning the national championship in 2016, ASU will host the national championship in 2017.
 
Darby Middlebrook, Kyla Roy, Rebecca Naughton, and Hannah Henry join a trio of signees from November in Kenzi Wilson, Grace Obando, and Catherine Giuseffi.
 
Darby Middlebrook (Boone, N.C./University of Michigan/Watauga HS)
 
Darby Middlebrook comes to Tempe as a graduate transfer from the University of Michigan, where she majored in Kinesiology and Environmental Studies. As a freshman and sophomore, Middlebrook ran track and cross country, earning Big Ten Scholar Athlete awards and running personal bests of 4:32 in the 1500m, 9:47 in the 3000m and 17:27 in the 5k.
 
As a junior, she switched focus to competing in triathlon, placing eighth at the Collegiate Club National Championships in just her second all-time race. As a senior, Middlebrook won the Mid-East Collegiate Triathlon Conference championship, placed third in the East Coast Regional Qualifier, and was the first woman from the University of Michigan to qualify for the national championships.
 
English on Middlebrook: "In our first year as a sport, we had Amy Darlington at ASU for her fifth year of eligibility and I really like this idea for a young program such as ours. Darby is going to bring experience and leadership as a seasoned athlete and we are very excited about her."
 
Kyla Roy (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Vincent Massey Collegiate)
 
Kyla Roy started her athletic career as a swimmer, with specialty in breaststroke, and followed in her father's footsteps, competing in triathlons in the summer. In 2013, she became the youngest athlete to compete in triathlon at the Canadian Summer Games. Since then, she competes solely in triathlon and represented Canada as a Junior Elite at the 2015 and 2016 World Championships.
 
English on Roy: "Kyla is a very strong national and international level triathlete with a lot of potential for the future in triathlon. She is going to bring a lot to the team in terms of experience as an athlete and racer."
 
Rebecca Naughton (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic HS)
 
Rebecca Naughton was a letterwinner in swimming, cross country, and track in high school. She has won two duathlon national championships, was named 2014 Duathlete of the Year, and is a three-time member of Team USA at both world triathlon and duathlon championships.
 
Outside of athletics, Naughton is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the Presidential Honor Roll every semester.
 
English on Naughton: "We are excited about Rebecca joining the team this fall. She brings a full package as an all-around athlete, great student, and hard worker."
 
Hannah Henry (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada)
 
Hannah Henry joins fellow signee Kyla Roy as a Canadian triathlete, hailing from Victoria, B.C. She finished third at the Canadian Junior Elite National Championships in 2015 and second in 2016. At the ITU Junior Elite world championships in Cozumel in 2016, she finished 12th overall.

Henry also competes in track and cross country and has received the Highest Aggregate Track Award for the past three years. She plans to study at the W.P. Carey School of Business.
