PHOENIX – Sun Devil Baseball dropped a weather-delayed series finale with Washington, 6-1, on Sunday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

Three scoreless frames preceded a two-hour, 25-minute weather delay, and the Huskies (16-11, 7-5) used a three-run fifth inning to take a lead they never relinquished. The Sun Devils (17-12, 4-8) scored once in the seventh, but UW responded with three runs in the ensuing frame to move ahead by five.

Freshman right-hander Chris Isbell, in his first career start, did not allow a run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. He conceded a leadoff single in the fourth and followed with a strikeout and a walk before the rain came.

The game resumed at 3:20 p.m. with runners on first and second and one out in the top of the fourth inning following a two-hour, 25-minute weather delay. Left-hander Reagan Todd (2-2) ended the frame with two consecutive outs, including a pop-up to first base and a swinging strikeout, to strand both runners.

Todd issued four walks, including three straight with two outs and the final with the bases loaded, in the fifth inning that led to the game’s first run and UW added a two-run single up the middle off left-handed reliever Eli Lingos to take a 3-0 lead.

Ryan Lillard, who pinch-hit in the fourth, cut the Devils’ deficit to two, 3-1, in the seventh as he doubled, his second hit of the game, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.

The Huskies added three runs in the eighth off three Sun Devil pitchers to push their lead to five, 6-1.

Lingos put together consecutive scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh before right-handers Ryan Hingst and James Ryan, and left-hander Tucker Baca appeared in the eighth. Ryan conceded two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 scoreless frames. Todd took the loss after he was responsible for all three runs in the fifth inning.
