TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's soccer team finished the regular season with a victory over Oregon State, 2-1, Sunday at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The 13 wins marks the Sun Devils best season in their brief four-year history.
Oregon State (8-11-1, 1-8-0 Pac-10) recorded 19 shots on the ASU goal. Sun Devil goalkeeper Erin Reinke played outstanding recording 11 saves and keeping ASU's hopes of postseason play alive.
The Sun Devils (13-6-0, 5-4-0 Pac-10) scored first, when Sarah Blaska headed the ball over OSU's goalkeeper Jerika Duran from eight yards out off a Jill Rivard serve in the 35th minute. In the second half, ASU increased its lead when Holly Cohen and Blaska teamed to beat Duran and passed to Jaclyn Clark for a two-yard open net goal in the 55th minute.
Oregon State notched a goal in the 70th minute when Leila Kaady blasted a shot from 15-yards out to pull OSU within a goal. The Beavers continued to apply heavy pressure on the ASU goal with Reinke coming up with clutch saves late in the game to preserve the win and hopes for the Devils first postseason.
The Sun Devils await the NCAA's decision for selection to postseason play tonight at 8 p.m.
