Sport recaps

Baseball

Willie Bloomquist / Fourth season
Named Head Coach June 11, 2021

36-24 Overall / 18-12 Big 12 (T-4th)

Sun Devil Baseball made its 42nd NCAA postseason appearance as the No. 3 seed in the Los Angeles Regional, as southpaw pitcher Cole Carlon earned NCBWA third-team All-America while Landon Hairston earned NCBWA Freshman All-America honors. ASU topped UC Irvine before falling to UCLA and then UC Irvine to close the 2025 season.

The Sun Devils were one of just 16 Power Four conference teams to win 18 conference games this season. In the regular season, ASU won 23 games against Power Four teams, the fifth-highest tally in the country (UCLA 28, Texas 27, Clemson 24, Kansas 24).

ASU led the Big 12 with four First Team All-Conference selections and 12 overall selections. Matt King was named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Year, and Landon Hairston was named to the All-Freshman team. Arizona State drew a record attendance of 119,956 and 3,427 people per home game this season.

Men's Basketball

Boby Hurley / Tenth season
Named Head Coach April 8, 2015
13-20 Overall / 4-16 Big 12 (15th)

Men's Basketball year-by-year and coaching records

Head Coach Bobby Hurley's 10th season was their first as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Jayden Quaintance was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team and the All-Freshman Team. He is just the fifth player to be on both the All-Defensive and All-Freshman Teams in the Big 12 since 2017. This is the eighth consecutive year under Bobby Hurley where he’s had at least one of his players achieve All-Conference distinction.

As a team, the Sun Devils finished the season with the fourth-most three-point field goals made (287). Senior Alston Mason shot .848 from the free throw line, only four other players have reached this average since 2010. For the sixth time under Bobby Hurley's team, they attracted an average of over 8,000 fans per game (8,644), with 121,021 fans recorded in total for all home games. ASU notched its 13th win over a ranked opponent under Bobby Hurley with a 65-57 win at #23 West Virginia on Jan. 21.

Women's Basketball

Natasha Adair / Third season
Named Head Coach March 27, 2022
10-22 Overall / 3-15 Big 12 (15th)

Women's Basketball year-by-year and coaching records

The 2024-25 season was Sun Devil Women's Basketball's first as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Jalyn Brown and Tyi Skinner were both named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. Both Skinner (1,078 points) and Brown (1,024 points) went over the 1,000-point mark for their Sun Devil careers. Both players accomplished the feat in just two seasons. Skinner (80 3-pointers in 2024-25) surpassed Kate Hempen (76 3-pointers in 2014-15) for most 3-pointers by a Sun Devil in a season.

As a team, the Sun Devils set a new record for free throw percentage (75.8/414-of-546), eclipsing the free throw percentage of the 2006-07 team (75.1/571-of-768). For the first time since 2019, the Sun Devils were victorious in a conference tournament game, defeating Cincinnati 82-75 in the first round of the 2025 Big 12 Championship.

On March 8, 2025, Sun Devil Athletics Director Graham Rossini announced head women's basketball coach Natasha Adair would not return as the team's head coach in 2025-26 and Molly Miller was named head coach on March 22, 2025.

Season stats / Season recap

A year removed from tying the record for most wins in a single season, the 2025 Sand Devils broke the record, winning 22 games, including a 9-1 mark on home sand. Arizona State ended the year ranked No. 12 in the AVCA Coaches Poll after spending the entire season ranked in the top 15, getting as high as No. 10. At the first Big 12 Beach Volleyball Championships, ASU finished in second place, coming up just short in a 3-2 battle against the 2025 NCAA National Champions TCU.

The Sun Devils were undefeated against unranked opponents this season, a trend they continued from last season. Additionally, the squad picked up seven ranked wins, the second most in a season in program history. Numerous Sand Devils won awards this season, highlighted by redshirt junior Samaya Morin being named an AVCA Second Team All-American. Three earned All-Big 12 Team honors: Daniella Kensinger, Morin, and Ava Kirunchyk. Additionally, Morin and Kirunchyk were named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team, along with Arden Besecker and Ava Haughy.

Men's and Women's Cross Country

Ryan Ray / Third season
Big 12 finishes: Men (11th); Women (9th)

Ryan Ray's third season at the helm of the Sun Devils saw an influx of new talent as the team navigated its first season in the Big 12. True freshmen Judy Chepkoech, Evaline Chepkoech, Lemerian Lemashon and Dennis Rono made immediate impacts.

Judy Chepkoech pieced together one of the best seasons in recent team history, becoming the 10th individual in Sun Devil Women's team history to earn All-American honors after placing 30th (19:59.0/6k) at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November. The first freshman in team history to earn All-American honors, Chepkoech was the first Sun Devil to reach the NCAA Championships since Shelby Houlihan in 2014.

Weeks prior at the team's first Big 12 Championships, Chepkoech placed fourth overall to become just the fourth Sun Devil in the past decade to have a top-20 finish at the conference championships, joining Shelby Houlian (1st/2014), Chelsey Albertson (14th/2017) and Samantha Ortega (18th/2015). In doing so, she was named to the Big 12's All-Conference Team. Judy Chepkoech's rookie campaign also included two individual wins, five top-five finishes and the school record in the Women's 6k (19:07.0). Lemerian Lemashon was consistently the top runner for the mem, adding a season-best sixth-place finish in the 8k (23:40.9) at the UC Riverside Invite in September.

Football

Kenny Dillingham / Second season
Named Head Coach on November 27, 2022, 2015
11-3 Overall / 7-2 Big 12
Won Big 12 title game

The Sun Devils shocked the college football world in Kenny Dillingham's second season as head coach. Running back Cam Skattebo was the spotlight of this season thanks to a memorable season, he racked up over 1,700 yards rushing and 600 yards receiving while also totaling 24 touchdowns. He is the first player to record at least 1,500 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving in the Big 12 Conference and is the first player to record these stats since Christian McCaffrey in 2015. Skattebo finished fifth in Heisman Voting and is the first Sun Devil to be voted in the race since quarterback Jake Plummer in 1996. He was also named a First Team AP All-American as well as the All-Big 12 Football First Team.

The Sun Devils also finished the season with an undefeated record at home for the first time since 2004 and just the tenth time in program history. Highlights from this season included a blowout opening home win against Wyoming, with the second-highest student attendance ever recorded for an ASU home game, with 13,698 students attending the game.

Other highlights include a thrilling 28-23 win over No. 14 BYU and a crushing 49-7 victory over in-state rival Arizona in Tucson. By defeating No. 16 Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship and clinching their first outright conference championship since 1996, Arizona State secured a spot in the College Football Playoffs for the first time in program history. Other players that were also named to the All-Big 12 First Team included wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, offensive lineman Leif Fautanu, and defensive back Xavion Alford. Freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt, tight end Chamon Metayer, defensive lineman C.J. Fite, and linebacker Keyshaun Elliot were all named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

Men's Golf

Matt Thurmond / Ninth season
Named Head Coach July 25, 2016

NCAA finish: T-5th (0-1 in Match Play) / 2nd at Big 12

The Sun Devils finished the year ranked third by Clippd and earned the top match play seed via the stroke play portion of the NCAA championship before falling in a fantastic match vs. Ole Miss. The team captured team titles at the Sahalee Players Championship in Washington (Sept. 7-8), the Cabo Collegiate in March and its Thunderbird Invitational in April. It also notched five second-place finishes, including both the Big 12 and NCAA Bremerton Regional, and then advanced to NCAA match play for the fourth time in the past five seasons, something only North Carolina can claim.

Sun Devil head coach Matt Thurmond and his Sun Devil men’s golf program continue to produce All-Americans, as for the fourth time in five seasons, four Sun Devils have earned the honor, including 2025-26 junior Connor Williams (third team) and senior Michael Mjaaseth (honorable mention). Both enter the summer as top-40 players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) and will be among the top players in collegiate golf next season.

Graduated seniors Josele Ballester – already announced as a first-team selection – and Preston Summerhays (honorable mention) also earned the Golf Coaches Association honor, and both are playing this weekend in the U.S. Open. The program has had GCAA All-Americans in 2021 for the first time since 2009 and now has done the same in four of the past five seasons, as Matt Thurmond has had 11 All-Americans earn 22 honors in his nine seasons.

Women's Golf

Missy Farr-Kaye / 10th season
Named Head Coach June 26, 2015

NCAA finish: T-9th / 2nd at Big 12

Redshirt sophomore Patience Rhodes earned third-team All-American honors from Golfweek, while juniors Beth Coulter and Paula Schulz-Hanssen earned honorable mention. ASU won back-to-back team championships with its PING Invitational and Clover Cup titles, while previously claiming victory at the 2024 Windy City Collegiate Classic in October.

Coach Missy Farr Kaye has won 21 team titles since she took over prior to the 2015-16 season. The three wins are the most in a season since the 2020-21 team earned four trophies. It is only the fourth time since 2009 that ASU has won back-to-back events.

Gymnastics

Jay Santos / Ninth season
Named Head Coach
 May 27, 2016

10-10 Overall / 5th at Big 12 Championships
NCAA finish: 27 on Road to Nationals (NCAA Regionals)

In the first season as a member of the Big 12 Conference, Arizona State (10-10, 2-4 Big 12) and ninth-year head coach Jay Santos put together a solid season after losing half of the starting lineups from 2024. Despite falling just short of a winning record, the Gym Devils continued the streak of not having a losing season since 2017.

The Sun Devils qualified for NCAA Regionals for the last eight seasons in a row (counting 2020 when the team would have made it had the postseason happened), this season going to the Washington Regional and placing fourth in the first session of the second round. There were four Gym Devils to be named to the All-Big 12 Teams. In the all-around, both junior Kimberly Smith and graduate Emily White earned a spot on the team. White also earned floor honors. Graduate Sarah Clark was named to the All-Big 12 Team for bars, and graduate Jada Mangahas received vault honors.

Hockey

Greg Powers / Tenth season
Named Head Coach November 18, 2014

21-14-2 Overall / 14-10-1 / 2nd in NCHC

Sun Devil Hockey concluded the 2024-25 season with a 21-14-2 overall record and a 14-9-1 mark and second-place finish in conference play. ASU fell short in the Frozen Faceoff semifinal round, losing 4-2 to No. 3-seed Denver. The loss marked the end of the Sun Devil's 2024-25 campaign in their inaugural season in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

The Sun Devils defied the odds in their first conference season: ASU achieved a historic road sweep against then-No. 1 Denver, marking the program’s first road sweep of the nation’s top-ranked team and snapping DU’s 21-game win streak. The Sun Devils also became the first team to sweep the Pioneers at home since 2020.

Powers reached his 300th career win in ASU's 3-2 win in the series opener versus Denver. ASU went on to reach a new program record for consecutive road wins with six straight. The Sun Devils were the only team to defeat the eventual 2025 national champions, Western Michigan, in regulation in conference play.

Graduate center Artem Shlaine only needed one season to leave his mark on the program as he earned CCM/AHCA Division I All-Americans Second-Team West honors. He became only the second Sun Devil to be selected as an All-American by the AHCA (goaltender Joey Daccord in 2019). The graduate class of Artem Shlaine, Lukas Sillinger, Ty and Dylan Jackson, and Noah Beck combined for 144 points (42G, 102A) through 37 games. Ryan Kirwan finished the season with an NCHC-leading 26 goals and 39 points, which tops the ASU stat sheet. The mark set a new program record for goals in a single season by an ASU skater. Artem Shlaine and Lukas Sillinger tied for the second-most points on the team with 38. Sillinger completed his collegiate career with 160 points from 51 goals and 109 assists.

Lacrosse

Taryn Vanthof / Third season
Named Head Coach July 5, 2022
11-8 Overall / 3-2 Big 12/ Lost Big 12 Championship game

Lacrosse had one of the best seasons in program history after an 11-8 record and second-place finish in the Big 12. The team matched a program-best 3-0 start to open the season and also saw a program-record seven wins at home in 2025, including the program’s first Big 12 win with a 14-12 victory over Cincinnati.

Behind the dominant home play, the Sun Devils set the Big 12 attendance record, welcoming over 5,000 fans to Tempe in nine home games. The team had arguably its best offense in program history in 2025, after tallying double-digits in all but one game and closing out the season with the 12th-best scoring offense in the NCAA.

The Maroon and Gold was led by junior attacker Teagan Ng, who set the single-season goal record and became the first Sun Devil to notch 70 goals in a season. She was followed by junior attacker Jordyn Behar who set the program’s single-season assist record (42) in just 12 games, eventually finishing with 65 assists. Behar became the program’s first 100-point scorer, shattering the single-season point record, and leading ASU to the Big 12 title game behind her record 12 points in the Big 12 semifinal game against Colorado, knocking the Buffaloes out of the tournament on their home turf.

Sun Devils collected 12 weekly Big 12 honors during the season before finishing with four named to the All-Big 12 Team, one on the All-Newcomer Team, and both the Big 12 Draw Specialist (Anna Viglione) and Scholar Athlete (Bella Ingrao) of the Year. Both Behar and Viglione were recognized as IWLCA All-Region Second Team members and as USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mentions. Viglione added an IL Women Third Team All-American nod, as one of the most successful draw specialists in the NCAA with her third-best draw control per game (11.32) mark in the league.

Soccer

Graham Winkworth / Eighth season
Named Head Coach November. 29, 2016
8-8-3 Overall / 3-7-1 Big 12 (11th)
PDF of final season statistics

Sun Devil Soccer wrapped up the 2024 season with an 8-8-3 overall record, finishing 3-7-1 in conference play. The Sun Devils started strong, going unbeaten in their first seven matches, highlighted by dominant wins over Wagner (6-0), LSU (5-2), and Penn (3-0). Kierra Blundell was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year after leading the team with nine goals and 24 points. Blundell was also named Second Team All-Big 12, where she was joined by Enasia Colon, who contributed seven goals and seven assists during the season. Cameron Valladares also made a major impact with seven goals, including four game-winners. Goalkeeper Pauline Nelles played every minute in net, recording 75 saves with a 1.42 goals-against average and six shutouts.

Softball

Megan Bartlett / Third season
Named Head Coach June 22, 2022

35-21 Overall / 14-10 Big 12 (5th)

The 2025 Sun Devil Softball team put together a solid season in their inaugural Big 12 campaign, finishing 35-21 overall and 14-10 in conference play. They were particularly tough at home (23-12) and surged through an eight-game win streak in April. The Sun Devils won five Big 12 series, including a road sweep of Utah.

A defining moment came when ASU earned its first Big 12 Tournament win by upsetting #23 Oklahoma State, securing its return to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2022. Freshman standouts were central to the team’s rise—slugger Ashleigh Mejia launched 13 home runs with 44 RBIs, while fellow rookie Tiare Ho-Ching hit .354 with 58 hits, 24 RBIs, 10 stolen bases, and a team-high 14 multi-hit games. Both players earned All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Freshman Team recognition. Kelsey Hall added a powerful veteran presence to the lineup, batting .325 with 10 home runs and a team-best 49 RBIs, while also contributing 15 multi-hit games and five multi-RBI performances.

Tanya Windle (.373 average, 60 hits, 13 doubles) also landed on the All-Big 12 Second Team after anchoring the top of the lineup. The unquestioned heartbeat of the team, however, was ace Kenzie Brown. In her return from injury, Brown dominated the circle en route to NFCA First Team All-America and unanimous All-Big 12 First Team honors. She compiled a 19-8 record with a minuscule 1.28 ERA and 289 strikeouts across 174.1 innings, averaging 11.6 Ks per seven innings—best among Power 4 pitchers. She tallied double-digit strikeouts 12 times, highlighted by an 18-strikeout masterpiece in a 1-0 win over BYU.
