Arizona State University and University of Arizona sports teams will compete against one another in 19 common varsity intercollegiate sports during the 2022-23 academic year. For a school to be the winner of the Territorial Cup Series ® Trophy, it must accumulate 11 points.
- Each sport will be worth one (1) point.
- The point is awarded to the team that wins a season series.
- If the teams play once in a given season (football) then that game counts as one point.
- For baseball and softball, all regular season games count towards season series tally, including the non-conference games.
- For cross country, golf, and track and field only, one point is awarded to whichever team finishes higher in the Pac-12 Championship.
- If teams split the regular season match-ups, then each team receives a half-point for that sport.
- In the event of a tie the following tie-breaker will be used: University with higher finish in the Directors' Cup Standings.
- In the event of a tie after the Directors' Cup Standings are used the TCS will end in a tie.

SCHOOL RECORDS FALL AND 2 CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT OUTDOOR TRACK PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP/MAY 12-14, 2023 (ARIZONA TAKES THE SPORTS AND POINTS, ARIZONA TAKES TERRITORIAL CUP 11-10)
Sun Devil Track and Field broke records and claimed seven medals this week at the Pac-12 Championships. ASU celebrated Grace Campbell (high jump) and the men's 4x4 earning gold. Jeremiah Curry (200m), Adriana Tatum (200m), Christina Warren (triple jump) all set new program records in their respective events too. Medals were also earned in the men's 4x1, men's 400m (Justin Robinson), and in the men's discus and shot put (Turner Washington). Campbell's high jump crown is ASU's first in the event since hall of famer Jackie Johnson won hers in 2004 after going 1.77m/5-9.75. The 4x400 relay squad earned ASU's first 4x4 title since 2014 (3:07.10). The Wildcats took the Territorial Cup point in women's outdoor track with their 10th place finish and Arizona took the Territorial Cup in men's finishing 5th.

SUN DEVIL MEN'S GOLFS FINISHES SECOND AT PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS/APRIL 30, 2023 (ASU TAKES THE SPORT AND POINT, ASU LEADS 10-9)
ASU the 2023 Pac-12 Championship in second, carding a 6-under team card (331-345-359-359=1394/-6). The Sun Devils were paced in the event by Preston Summerhays at 2-under 278 (64-65-74-75=278/-2), good for a 12th-place finish. Luke Potter and Ryggs Johnston were both even in Sunday's final round, with Potter sprinkling three total birdies with bogey-free, 1-under back-nine. ASU's second-place finish at the conference championship is its best since the 2021 season, when it was also second. They also earned the Territorial Cup point over Arizona with the Wildcats finishing seventh, as the Sun Devils have finished better than Arizona in 14 of the past 17 Pac-12 men's golf championships, missing Territorial Cup Series points only in 2011, 2012 and 2021.

The final match of the regular season featured a duel under the lights at Whiteman Tennis Center, with No. 44 Sun Devil men's tennis (13-10, 2-6) falling to the No. 16 Arizona Wildcats (20-5, 6-2), 4-2 with Jacob Ballard and No. 40 Murphy Cassone winning their respective single's matches in front of a energetic crowd on April 22. Ballard won his fourth three-set match of the season, his first since March 17, 2023 against California, and Cassone continuing his winning ways, with his 11th straight-sets win of the year.

NO. 21 SUN DEVILS SWEEP WILDCATS IN SEASON FINALE/ APRIL 22, 2023 (ASU TAKES THE SPORT AND POINT, ASU LEADS 9-8)
The No. 21 Sun Devils slammed the door shut on the regular season with a 4-0 sweep of No. 48 Arizona on April 22 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center for their eighth consecutive win over the in-state rival Wildcats. It was a battle in doubles play that lasted nearly an hour, as both schools traded wins on Courts 1 and 3. The decisive point came down to Giulia Morlet and Sedona Gallagher, the Sun Devils winningest duo this spring, who calmly triumphed in the tiebreak to clinch the point. In singles, all it took was a trio of quick victories to send the Wildcats packing. Marianna Argyrokastriti, Giulia Morlet and Gallagher were the three Sun Devils to do it, as each won in straight sets.

ANOTHER COMEBACK COMPLETE: SAND DEVILS UPSET NO. 19 ARIZONA IN TUCSON/ APRIL 21, 2023 (ASU TAKES THE SPORT AND HALF POINT, TERRITORIAL CUP IS TIED 8-8)
It's déjà vu all over again for Sun Devil Beach Volleyball in the rivalry series. Down 2-0 in the dual after the first flight, Arizona State came back to beat No. 19 Arizona 3-2 at Bear Down Beach in Tucson on April 21. The Sun Devils complete the season sweep over the Wildcats for the first time since 2014 before beach volleyball was an official NCAA sport. It is also the first true road win in Tucson since 2017. ASU dropped the sets on courts two and four to start the dual at Arizona, then it was rally time. Pairs three and five won their opening sets handily but dropped their second sets to go a third. On court one, Lexi Sweeney and Kylie Wickley lost their first set and came back to dominate the second, 21-12. In the third sets, the dual was on the line. It started with the No. 5 pair of Kate Fitzgerald and Adriana Nieves Papaleo, winning their third set 15-10 to make it 2-1. The next Sun Devil point came on court three from Rylie Kael and Carys Thomas, who won their third set with the same 15-10 score to tie the duel. Finally, the top pair of Sweeney and Wickley cruised to a 15-4 win to clinch the 3-2 victory.

BETH COULTER FINISHES SECOND AT PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS, WILDCATS ROUND OUT TOP FOUR/ APRIL 19, 2023 (ARIZONA TAKES THE SPORT AND POINT, ARIZONA LEADS 8-7.5)
On the final day of the Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships, No. 11 Sun Devil Women's golf finished in 5th place after accumulating a 871 (+7) over the past three days at Papago Golf Club. The Wildcats earned the Territorial Cup point with their 4th place finish with a 865 (+1). Arizona State freshman Beth Coulter delivered an incredible final round 68 (-4) to finish 5-under for the week and earn second place in her Pac-12 Championship debut. She is the program's highest finisher since Olivia Mehaffey won the 2019 Pac-12 Championship in a playoff. Coulter's first career Top-5 finish couldn't have come at a better time, as she came through for Missy Farr-Kaye's team under pressure.

SAND DEVILS RALLY TO UPSET NO. 18 ARIZONA/ MARCH 28, 2023 (ASU EARNS HALF A POINT, ASU LEADS 7.5-7)
Clinched by a three-set victory by the No. 1 pair of Lexi Sweeney and Kylie Wickley, Sun Devil Beach Volleyball rallied from down 2-0 to came back to upset No. 18 Arizona 3-2 in the home opener on March 29. Arizona State (7-7, 3-2 Pac-12) won its third dual over Arizona (12-4, 2-3 Pac-12) in the last four meetings, including two in a row at home. The Sun Devils earned their first ranked win of the season. The Sand Devils lost the first two matches on courts two and four with the comeback beginning in the second flight with a straight-set win from the freshmen pair of Adriana Nieves Papaleo and Carys Thomas on court five. The No. 3 pair of Taryn Ames and Sarah Waters followed that up by winning their match in three sets to tie the dual at 2-2. It all came down to court one where Wickley and Sweeney lost the first set but rallied to win the second set and forced a third set. The start of the third was neck and neck before ASU pulled away, winning 15-11 to clinch the win.

SUN DEVIL BASEBALL SWEEPS ARIZONA/ MARCH 24-26, 2023 AND APRIL 19, 2023 (ASU TAKES THE SPORT AND POINT, TERRITORIAL CUP IS TIED 7-7)
It was an exciting start to the Territorial Cup Series for Sun Devil Baseball as it rallied behind a massive evening from Luke Keaschall to defeat the Arizona Wildcats, 6-5, on March 24. It was a big-time night Keaschall, who put the team on his back with a pair of two-out home runs for five RBIs to single-handedly pace the Sun Devil offense. Jacob Tobias' multi-hit night brought in a pivotal insurance run in the sixth which would prove to be the difference in the final box score. Ross Dunn had the mound tonight for the Sun Devils, battling despite not having his best stuff to go 4.2 innings with seven hits, three runs and six strikeouts. On March 25, Nu'u Contrades drove in a career-high five RBI and Sun Devil Baseball struck the fork in the series, downing the Arizona Wildcats, 7-4, at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. ASU used a five-run sixth inning capped by a three-run rocket home run from Contrades, to take a lead it would not relinquish. In the series final on March 26, Sun Devil Baseball scored in five straight innings from the second to the sixth including, four home runs. The Wildcats put up three in the eighth, but did not have enough to stage a comeback. On April 19, the Sun Devils traveled to Tucson where No. 19/No. 18 ASU dropped a midweek contest against the Arizona Wildcats, 20-0. Nu'u Contrades paced the Sun Devils (25-11, 11-3) with two hits, improving his career marks against Arizona (19-15, 6-12) to 9-for-16 (.562) in four games. Luke Keaschall also went 1-3 at the plate.

ARIZONA SOFTBALL TAKES SERIES, SUN DEVILS PICK UP WIN IN SERIES FINALE/ MARCH 10-12, 2023 (ARIZONA TAKES THE SPORT AND POINT, ARIZONA LEADS 7-6)
In Friday's matchup on March 10, fielding miscues and silent bats caused the 22nd-ranked Sun Devils to drop the conference opener to No. 17 Arizona, 9-0. Arizona State recorded just four hits – all singles – while also committing four errors in the field. Makenna Harper led the Sun Devils, going 2-3 but the rest of the lineup went a combined 2-19. Then in the second game on Saturday, another quiet night at the plate led to ASU falling to the Wildcats 11-0 in six innings. Then to end the series on Sunday, the Sun Devils avoided the sweep by rallying from an early 2-0 deficit to claim a 4-3 win in the series finale. Jordyn VanHook, the nation's leader in home runs, and Jazmyn Rollin each homered to spark the victory. Kylee Magee earned her second win of the season and Marissa Schuld locked down her fourth save of the year by pitching the final two innings.

Sun Devil Track and Field is returning to Tempe with a pair of first-team All-Americans! Competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Turner Washington claimed his sixth NCAA medal with his third-place finish in the shot put, while the men's 4x400 relay group of Jalen Drayden, Jeremiah Curry, Dubem Nwachukwu and Justin Robinson finished fourth overall to also earn first-team honors. Robinson took ninth in the 400m too, earning second-team All-America honors. As a team, the Sun Devils finished 19th with 11 points and earned the Territorial Cup point over Arizona with the Wildcats placing 23rd. The Wildcats earned the point in women's indoor track, placing 43rd overall at NCAAs.

MEN'S SWIM AND DIVE WINS FIRST PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP IN PROGRAM HISTORY/ MARCH 4, 2023 (ASU TAKES THE SPORT AND POINT, TERRITORIAL CUP IS TIED 5-5)
Winning nine times, breaking eight program records and never letting go of first place, Men's Swimming and Diving took home the Pac-12 title for the first time in program history on March 4. Léon Marchand delivered a historic performance on Day 4, winning the 200 breast in 1:47.67, which is now the fastest time ever in the event and he won three titles that week while being a member of four winning relays. Zalan Sarkany kicked off the night with flare, winning the 1650 free at a school-record time of 14:41.65. Trailing just behind in second place was teammate Daniel Matheson, and the Sun Devils reached the podium in the remaining three events, via Owen McDonald (3rd/200 back), Grant House (3rd/100 free), Alex Colson (2nd/200 fly) and Andrew Gray (3rd/200 fly). Six Sun Devils added top-eight finishes, as well, in Julian Hill (6th/1650 free), Hubert Kos (4th/200 back), Jack Dolan (4th/100 free), Patrick Sammon (5th/100 free), Jonny Kulow (8th/100 free) and David Schlicht (4th/200 breast). The Sun Devils finished the week with a second place finish in the 400 free (Marchand-House-Sammon-Dolan), with a time of 2:46.14. It's the second-fastest time in program history and the second-best time in the country this year. ASU additionally earned the Territorial Cup over Arizona with the Wildcats finishing fourth.

Lindsay Looney won her second title of the week on the final day of the Pac-12 Championships, becoming the school's first conference champion in the 200 fly with a new program record of 1:52.68. It helped the Sun Devils secure a fifth-place finish in the final team standings, while also grabbing the Territorial Cup point over in-state rival Arizona with the Wildcats finishing sixth. Looney's second title in three days makes her just the second Sun Devil to win multiple races at the conference championships in the Bob Bowman era, joining Silja Kansakoski (100 Breast/2019 and 100 Yard Breaststroke/2017).

One of the most storied rivalries in college basketball witnessed the latest installment of thrills and memorable moments as Desmond Cambridge Jr. and Arizona State Men's Basketball sunk the No. 7 Arizona Wildcats on a halfcourt heave at the buzzer, 89-88, on Feb. 25 at the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson. The astonishing scenes were exacerbated by comeback heroics and tense momentum swings. In front of a hostile, sold-out crowd, Arizona State (20-9, 11-7) resisted an 11-point second half swing, trailing by as many as 10 with 6:30 left in regulation. After Arizona (24-5, 13-5) center Oumar Ballo went 1-2 from the free throw line with 2.9 seconds to go, Cambridge Jr. launched from beyond halfcourt and connected on one of the biggest shots in program history. Cambridge Jr. led the Sun Devils with 19 points and DJ Horne had 18.

SEASON HIGH DRIVES NO. 24 GYM DEVILS TO SEVENTH STRAIGHT OVER CATS/ JAN. 28, 2023 (ASU EARNS A POINT, ARIZONA LEADS 5-2.5)
No. 24 Sun Devil Gymnastics took a lead after the first rotation and never looked back, scoring 196.800 in route to their seventh-straight dual-meet victory over the Arizona Wildcats, who scored a 196.475 on Saturday night at Desert Financial Arena This was the third meet in a row scoring a 196-plus for the Gym Devils. The team had season highs on vault (49.300), beam (49.175) and floor (49.350). Overall, there were five career highs earned or matched and six additional season highs. Anaya Smith had a career-high 9.950 on vault, the highest score by any Gym Devil on any event this season. Her career-high was the best on vault by ASU since Ashley Kelly on March 7, 2008. The Gym Devils won titles on every event. Smith tied for the vault title, while three Sun Devils tied each other on bars with 9.875s: Emily White, Hannah Scharf, and Sarah Clark. On beam, White had a 9.925 to win outright, while on floor, Jordyn Jaslow and Jada Mangahas tied with a 9.900. Scharf won the all-around with a 39.400, a season high.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COMES UP SHORT IN TEMPE/JAN. 22, 2023 (ARIZONA EARNS HALF POINT AND TAKES THE SPORT, ARIZONA LEADS 5-1.5)
The Sun Devils got within four of the Wildcats before ultimately falling 80-67 on January 22 at Desert Financial Arena. Treasure Hunt led the team in scoring with a career high 24 points and also had six rebounds. Tyi Skinner also reached a career milestone, eclipsing 1,000 career points off a layup in the third quarter. ASU was tied with Arizona 6-6 with under five minutes left in the opening quarter before the Wildcats went on a 8-0 run after the first media timeout as Hunt had nine of the 16 points for the Sun Devils in the first quarter. ASU began the second quarter strong, shooting 3-of-4 from the field but ended the half on a wrong end of a 10-2 run to trail 43-31. The Sun Devils responded with a 10-2 run of its own, eight of which came from Treasure Hunt in a 1:30 span and they cut their deficit to four with 6:17 remaining in the third quarter. Arizona came out of a timeout and went on a 11-3 run to take a 62-48 going into the final quarter. The Sun Devils fought their way back, tying a season-high with 22 free throws made, but couldn't overcome the 14-point deficit entering the fourth quarter.

SECOND HALF COMEBACK FALLS SHORT FOR MEN'S BASKETBALL AGAINST ARIZONA/DEC. 31, 2022 (ARIZONA EARNS HALF POINT, ARIZONA LEADS 4.5-1.5)
Arizona State cut their deficit to just two points with 13:06 left in regulation, but could not complete the comeback in a 69-60 setback against Arizona at Desert Financial Arena on Dec. 31. There was a season-high crowd of 12,582 as the Sun Devils went on an 8-0 run and 18-4 scoring stretch to open the second half, but the Wildcats were able to withstand a valiant come-from-behind effort. The Sun Devil defense was again sensational, holding Wildcat big Oumar Ballo, the national leader in field goal percentage (.742) to just 3-8 from the floor. Arizona's 37.7% shooting from the field was also just the second time in their 14 games that they shot less than 40%.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS SHORT TO ARIZONA/DEC. 29, 2022 (ARIZONA EARNS HALF POINT, ARIZONA LEADS 4-1.5)
Sun Devil Women's Basketball came up short in its conference opener against the No. 18 Arizona Wildcats on Dec. 29 in Tucson. ASU was paced by Tyi Skinner who scored 26 points, the most allowed by the Wildcats this season and the seventh time she's scored at least 20 points this season. This was followed by Treasure Hunt's 13 points, which was her third game in a row in double figures and Meg Newman notched her second-straight game in double figures with 10 points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Junior Jaddan Simmons led the team in assists with five on the night. ASU recorded a season-best nine three-pointers in the game, and its .391 percentage behind the arc was also its highest of the year. After a slow start in the opening period, the Sun Devils responded by outscoring the Wildcats by two in the second quarter, with Skinner having 15 points in the opening half. The Sun Devils struck first to open the third quarter to cut the lead to nine, but Arizona extended their lead to 26 to end the third quarter. In the final quarter, Arizona State ended the game on an 11-3 run to outscore the opposition by eight points.

VOLLEYBALL SPLITS TERRITORIAL CUP SERIES IN SEASON FINALE/NOV. 26, 2022 (ARIZONA EARNS HALF POINT, ARIZONA LEADS 3.5-1.5)
Sun Devil Volleyball came up short in the rivalry match against Arizona in five sets (23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-11) on Nov. 26 at Desert Financial Arena in the last match of the season. Arizona State splits the season series with Arizona this year, with ASU winning earlier in the season in Tucson. Prior to the match, the three graduating seniors were honored: Brooke Boiseau, Annika Larson-Nummer and Shannon Shields. Junior pin hitter Marta Levinska reached 1,000 career kills today in style, matching her career high of 25 and hitting .389 while adding 11 digs for her sixth double-double this year, becoming the 19th Sun Devil to do so. The block was a factor for both teams, with Sun Devils earning 14 and the Wildcats getting 16.5. ASU was led by junior middle blocker Claudia Stahlke's seven, while junior Claire Jeter and Levinska added five each.The total attendance for the match was 3,286, which is the eighth-highest in the ASU record book.

FOOTBALL COMES UP SHORT TO ARIZONA IN TUCSON/NOV. 25, 2022 (ARIZONA EARNS FULL POINT, ARIZONA LEADS 3-1.5)
A back-and-forth game that saw six lead changes ended in a 38-35 Arizona victory at Arizona Stadium, ending the Sun Devils five-game winning streak in the series. The Sun Devils showed a ton of heart the entire game and overcame multiple double digit deficits to take a lead in the fourth quarter. Despite facing a 10-0 deficit early in the second quarter, ASU, led by quarterback Trenton Bourguet, scored two touchdowns on the next two drives and secured a 14-10 lead going into halftime. The Wildcats answered with an opening drive touchdown in the third quarter and the scoring seesaw continued. The Sun Devils took a fourth quarter lead with a four-yard touchdown reception by Jalin Conyers, but Arizona responded with another rushing touchdown on the following drive. Two turnovers in the final 3:17 put an end to another epic comeback attempt in Tucson, but the Sun Devils have still won 10 of the last 14 games in the series and are now 18-10 against Arizona since 1996.

Sun Devil Soccer took down Arizona for the first time since 2015 in a 3-2 win on Friday. ASU and Arizona were tied at the half and the Wildcats took the lead in the 47th minute but an Eva van Deursen goal tied the match up. ASU secured the victory and the Territorial Cup point off a Lucy Johnson goal.

Sun Devil Cross Country competed at the Pac-12 Championships in Riverside, Calif where the men's and women's teams finished 8th and 11th, respectively. The Wildcats took the points in the Territorial Cup as they finished close to the Sun Devils with their men's team placing 7th and the women's team coming in 9th. Leading the Maroon and Gold was Vincent Mauri who finished ninth with a time of 22:59.0 to qualify for the NCAA Regional meet in Tacoma, Washington. For the women's team, Lena Lebrun paced the women's team, finishing in the Top-50. In total, ASU saw five athletes record personal records.

VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS UA 3-1/SEPT. 21, 2022 (ASU LEADS AT 0.5-0)
Sun Devil Volleyball defeated Arizona in Tucson to start Pac-12 play, winning in four sets (23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-20). The win marked the Wildcats' first defeat at home of the season. It was also Arizona State's first win in Tucson since 2019. The Sun Devils out-hit the Cats .311 to .208. Three of the four ASU players with 10-plus attacks hit over .300 in the win. Senior outside hitter Iman Isanovic led all players in kills with 18, adding 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Joining her in double figures in kills were Marta Levinska with 17 and Geli Cyr with 15, a season high for the sophomore. Senior libero Annika Larson-Nummer reached double-digit digs for the second match in a row in as many starts this season. She matched her season high with 25 digs.
