SUNRIVER, Ore. - The 109th NCAA Golf Championships came to a close Saturday afternoon with the Arizona State University men's golf team slipping with an 11-over showing on the final day of competition to fall to 11th place in the event played at the 7,630 yard, par 72 Crosswater Club Course in Sunriver, Ore. The Sun Devils finished the four-day tournament at 7-over (1,159) while Oklahoma State won its 10th title with a 9-over (1,143) score.
Alejandro Canizares capped his remarkable collegiate career with his 22nd Top 10 finish as his 4-under 284 tied him for sixth overall. Following the tournament, Canizares was named to his fourth All-America team, this year earning first team accolades. He also earned first team honors as a freshman in 2003 before being selected for the third team each of the past two seasons and joins Todd Demsey, Phil Mickelson and Billy Mayfair as the only four-time All-Americans in program history. His sixth-place showing also marked the third time he placed among the Top 20 in the tournament after finishing first in 2003 and tied for 19th last year.
Benjamin Alvarado Holley recorded his second solid round in a row as he fired a 1-under 71 to close out his first national tournament with an even-par 288 to place tied for 20th. His finish marked just the third time this season he concluded an event with a score of even par or better.
Niklas Lemke finished the tournament at 6-over following a 7-over showing on the final day to place tied for 48th while Lenny Park recorded his second 4-over round in a row to close out the event at 7-over to tie for 50th. Phil Telliard recorded a 7-over on the final day to close out his week at 24-over.
