TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University Head Football Coach Dirk Koetter signed 22 student-athletes to national letters of intent to study and play football, ASU announced Wednesday. The class is comprised of 17 freshmen and five junior college transfers, including the nation's top-rated defensive player and the nation's top-rated junior college tight end from 2002. Three of the transfers are currently enrolled in school and will participate in Spring drills.
"Because of the season we just completed combined with the facilities that we have built, we were able to be in on many of the top players nationally," says Koetter. "This class reflects that. We also were able to meet our needs with a balanced class."
The signature of Koetter's first two ASU classes was speed and this group is comparable.
Four of the signees in this class hail from the state of Arizona, including the finest talent from the Phoenix Metropolitan area. In fact, spanning three classes at ASU, Koetter has signed 23 student-athletes from the state of Arizona to letters of intent.
ASU signed 22 freshmen in 2002, 16 in 2001, 25 in 2000, 16 in 1999, 19 in 1998, 18 each in 1997 and 1996 and 17 in 1995.
