No Big 12 athletic department has produced more CSC Academic All-Americans than Arizona State, as ASU added five more in 2025-26 and has 163 in its history. Here are some random notes and facts on ASU's celebrated history with the Academic All-Americans of CSC.
No. 1 in the Big 12
Arizona State's 163 CSC Academic All-Americans is the best in the Big 12, with West Virginia closest at 149.
The first Sun Devil Academic All-American
Art Becker passed away in the summer of 2026 after a lengendary Sun Devil and athletic administration career. He was the first Sun Devil Academic All-American.
Men's basketball
In addition to Art Becker, men's basketball has had three other Sun Devils earn the honor tha tincludes Sun Devil Hall of Famer Roger Detter (third-team honor in 1969) and Dennis Dairman (also a third-team pick in 1965). Bobby Lazor earned the honot in 1999. Detter also was a three-sport star at Arizona State and a College World Series champion.
Gymnastics
Anne Kuhm is the most recent of four academic All-Americans for Sun Devil Gymnastics. The France native was on the 2019 All-Pac-12 Team, making the second team for the all-around.
Volleyball
Sun Devil Volleyball's most recent of 11 academic All-Americans was setter Argentina Ung in 2024. She was also an AVCA All-American (third team) that season, tallying 1,131 assists while helping the team finish No. 12 in the final AVCA Rankings.
Men's Swim and Dive
Men's Swim and Dive have had 14 academic All-Americans earned by 11 different student-athletes. The team has had at least one academic All-American for four straight seasons. Notablity, Leon Marchand earned academic All-American honors in 2023 and Jonny Kulow earned CSC Academic All-American Team Member of the Year for Division-I Swim and DIve. Kulow was a three-time Academic All-American along with being named an NCAA Elite 90 award winner.
Men's Golf
Men's golf has produced five Academic All-Americans with a couple of big-time names, as 2024 U.S. Amateur champion Josele Ballester and 2003 NCAA champion Alejandro Canizares both earned the honor, with Canizares earning the honor in 2005 and 2006.
Football
Keyshaun Elliott earned the honor in 2026 and joined a list that includes NFL plaeyrs like Zach Miller (2006) and Pat Tillman (1996 and 1997). Mark Tingstad also earned the honor twice (1988 and 1989).
Women's Golf
Women's Golf has produced six Academic All-Americans, most recent was national champion Roberta Liti in 2018 who earned At Large honors. LPGA pro Carlota Ciganda earned Academic All-American honors in 2010. Azahara Munoz (2008 and 2009) and Kellee Booth (1996-1998) earned the honor multiple times in their Sun Devil careers.
Women's Swim and DIve
Women's Swim and Dive has four student-athletes earn six honors, most recently, Elina Eggers earned academic All-American honors for three straight seasons. Caitlin Andrew (2007), Chris Jeffrey (1996) and Robyn Benincasa (1988) all earned honors at least once.
Women's Tennis
Women's Tennis has produced five student-athletes winning six honors since 2002, with Mhairi Brown earning two academic All-American selections in 2002 and 2003. 2023 was the first season for the program to have two academic All-Americans in the same year with Mariaan Argyrokastriti and Domenika Turkovic being honored. Recently, Vivian Ovrootsky was tabbed as academic All-American helping lead the Sun Devils to a share of the Big 12 regular season title.
Wrestling
Wrestling has assembled two academic All-American honors with Anthony Valencia earning a CSC At-Large honor in 2021. Curtis Owen was the first academic All-American in program history, winning the honor in 2003.
