SAMMAMISH, WA. – Sun Devil Men’s Golf finished their first tournament of the season at the Sahalee Players Championship (par 72/7,007 yards) in Sammamish, WA, on Sunday.
Junior Peer Wernicke filed a 10-stroke improvement from the second round with a 3-under 69 to finish tied for 11th at 5-over (221) for the tournament. It is Wernicke’s ninth career top-20 finish as a Sun Devil.
Arizona State shot 32-over (896) for a tie for sixth in their debut tournament for the season. The Sun Devils will play next week at the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.

True Spec and Sun Devil Men's Golf are being innovative
True Spec Golf, the global leader in custom club fitting and club building, announced that they have partnered with Sun Devil Men’s Golf for the 2026-2027 season. The deal, which includes True Spec’s full range of custom club fitting services, as well as a substantial NIL contribution, is the first partnership of its kind. In addition to the Tour-level club fitting experience True Spec provides, every player on the Sun Devil men’s roster will receive ongoing tune-ups for loft and lie, gap analysis and regripping. As a business headquartered in Scottsdale, True Spec will also support its hometown university's golf program with a meaningful NIL contribution to compensate participating ASU student-athletes.
Solid preseason rankings
Golfweek has the Sun Devils second in the preseason, while Golf Channel has the Sun Devils fourth, with four swingers earning preseason All-America honors in some fashion. Florida is the top-ranked team according to Brentley Romine at Golf Channel, followed by Oklahoma State and Auburn. Big 12 members Texas Tech (fifth), BYU (18), Arizona (21) and Utah (30) also are in the top 30.
Sophomore Nguyen Anh Mihn was selected as a third-team All-American along with senior Connor Williams, with sophomore Boston Bracken earning honorable mention. Oscar Couilleau earned first-team Freshman All-America honors.
The Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll has Florida, Auburn, Oklahoma State, Arizona State and Texas as its top five.
