PARIS – More Sun Devils are competing on the international stage this summer, as 11 Sun Devil student-athletes and alumni will begin competition at the European Aquatic Championships in Paris, France, starting August 10.
The meet is the region's biggest swim meet of the summer before the World Aquatic Championships set in Beijing this December.
Current student-athletes Mattia Mauri and Julia Ullmann represent Switzerland, joined by alum Tiago Behar. Incoming Sun Devils include Oliver Munn swimming for Sweden, Daniel Marinov competing for Norway and Kristupas Trepocka representing Lithuania. Remi Fabiani will swim fo Luxembourg, Sergio de Celis Montalbán will compete for Spain and ASU alumna Fanny Teijonsalo is swimming for Finland.
Sun Devil alum Léon Marchand headlines the French national team, joined by Sun Devil sophomore Albane Cachot on the women’s team. Marchand opened 2026 with a pair of wins in the 200m IM in 1:57.65 and the 400m IM in 4:13.21 in Austin, Texas. In March, he earned two wins in the 200m back (1:57.56) and 200m breast (2:10.06) in the Pro Swim Series in Westmont. In late June, he won the French championship in the 400. IM in 4:04.56, the best performance in the world.
Albane Cachot, coming off a stellar freshman season for the Sun Devils, placed second in the 50m fly at the French Championships in 26.04, a personal best. She added a personal best with a fifth place showing in the 50m free (25.02).
Behar, represented Switzerland at the European Aquatic Championships last winter and competed at the World Aquatics World Cup. Ullmann, coming off her sophomore season. Had three top-20 finishes overseas in the 50m fly (26.79), 100m fly (59.79) and the 200m IM (2:20.51).
Incoming freshman Oliver Munn participated in the Mare Nostrum event in Barcelona, swimming a personal best in the 100m breast (1:01.33) and a season best in the 50m breast (28.07). Lithuanian native Kristupas Trepocka, earned bronze in the 50m free (22.92) at his country’s national championships and won gold in the 200m free (1:47.06) last April.
Remi Fabiani helped the Sun Devils achieve a fourth place finish at NCAAs last March with three relay wins. The alum will represent Luxembourg after winning four events at its national championships last month - including a personal best in the 100 back in 54.21.
Sergio de Celis Montalbán, a 2024 Paris Olympian, is swimming for the Sun Devils this upcoming season will be competing for Spain. The sprint specialist had an 8th place finish in the 100m free (46.43) at the European Aquatic Championships last December.
Sun Devil alumna Fanny Teijonsalo (2017-19) was a semifinalist in the 50m back (27.85) at the 2025 World Aquatic Championships and was a finalist at the More Nostrum meet in Monaco in May, placing eighth in the 50m back. Teijonsalo, competed for the Sun Devils for two seasons and at the time, swam 9 of the top-10 times in the 100 fly in school history.
