The No. 10 Sun Devil men's golf team will next tee it at the Big 12 Championships presented by Allstate at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, on April 27-29. The teams will play 36 holes on the first day and close with 18 the final two days. The April 16 NCAA rankings have Oklahoma State sixth, with Texas Tech (seventh), Arizona State (No. 10), Arizona (No. 20) and BYU (No. 23) all in the top 25.
Conference tournament history
Since the time it joined the Pac-10 in 1978-79, no men's golf team was better in its conference tournament than Arizona State. ASU added to their record total of 13 Pac-10/12 team championships since it joined the league in 1978-79 in 2024, which was five more than any other school (USC had eight), including a conference record six straight from 1995-2000. In addition to the six straight Pac-10 titles, ASU's other seven Pac-10 titles were in 1979 (its first year in the league), 1981, 1989, 1990, 1993, 2008, and 2024. ASU tied for the league title in 2005 with Washington but lost on a tiebreaker formula, and the league decided to go to a playoff format after that season.
Conference medalists from Pac-10/12
Sun Devil legend Jon Rahm won the 2016 title and Paul Casey won three straight Pac-10 titles from 1998-2000, which was a conference record for consecutive Pac-10/12 titles. Other Sun Devils who won the Pac-10 Championship were Scott Johnson (1997), Phil Mickelson (1990), co-medalists Dan Forsman and Tony Grimes (1981), Jim Bertoncino (co-medalist in 1980) and co-medalists Scott Watkins and Dan Croonquist (1979).
Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll
The Sun Devils are ranked ninth in the April 17 edition of the Coaches poll, joined by Big 12 members Oklahoma State (sixth), Texas Tech (eighth), Arizona (21) and BYU (23).
2025 Big 12 Championship review
The Sun Devils finished in second with a 9-over 1,129 (277-284-286-282) at their first appearance in the Big 12 Championship at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa last year. Connor Williams, Michael Mjaaseth, and Josele Ballester all finished within the top five as individuals with Williams only two off the lead. ASU returns Williams, Mjaaseth and Fifa Laopakdee from last year's second-place squad. The team was ranked second in birdies (54) and pars (228) as well as had the second lowest par-4 scoring average. Oklahoma State won the title with a 2-under 1,118.
