TEMPE – No. 16 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis needed only two hours to get a 4-0 sweep over Iowa State, Sunday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center. Notching their 15th win of the season and moving to 7-2 at home in 2026.
Arizona State (15-4, 7-2 Big 12) won its fifth straight conference match, which is the longest win streak in conference play since April 5-20, 2023, when the team won five straight Pac-12 Conference matches to end the regular season. Additionally, the team improved to 3-0 all-time over Iowa State (2-14, 0-9 Big 12).
The Sun Devils won the doubles point over the Cyclones with a win on court two by junior Emilija Tverijonaite and sophomore Aiya Nupbay, winning 6-2. Then, graduate Vivian Ovrootsky and sophomore Lily Taylor clinched the point with a 6-1 win on court one.
In singles, sophomore Zlata Bartanusz dropped only two games in the match to win in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to give the Sun Devils a 2-0 lead. The freshman moves to 4-3 this spring.
On court one, Tverijonaite won her sixth straight match, 6-1, 6-3 over No. 83 Mari Paz Vilar to secure the Sun Devils third point of the day. The win is her 12th this spring and the 28th of the season, becoming the 13th different Sun Devils to win 28+ singles matches in a season.
Helping secure the win, Nupbay won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 to improve to 5-1 this season, the sophomore has clinched four Big 12 matches this season in eight appearances.
The Sun Devils will remain at home with two final home matches of the regular season, facing Texas Tech on Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m. MST, then face Colorado on Sunday, April 5 at 12 p.m., celebrating senior day.
