DENTON, Texas – Sun Devil Gymnastics placed second in their first quad meet of the weekend on Friday evening with a 195.475, falling to No. 4 Florida but placing above Texas Woman’s University and Fisk.
Notable stats
- Arizona State (7-6) remained in second throughout the entire meet. ASU’s best events were on floor and vault, scoring a 49.125 and 49.075, respectively.
- Senior Kimberly Smith won the all around (39.425) for the second week in a row and fourth of her career. She has now scored a 39.400 or better three times this season. On vault, she earned a career high of 9.875.
- On vault, junior Lilia Purler stuck her vault and earned a career high with a 9.900, far surpassing her previous best of 9.825. Her score is the highest by a Gym Devil on vault this season. She also earned her first event title of the season.
- Two other Gym Devils set or tied season highs. Sophomore Halle Braaflat tied her career high and set a new season best on floor with a 9.850. On beam, freshman Safia El Mammann hit a 9.825, matching her personal best.
- Senior Kayla Lee earned a 9.850 on beam, continuing her streak of 9.800s and above on beam in every meet this season.
- Senior Caroline Lichtman made her season debut tonight, competing on beam and scoring a 9.700.

Rotation one: beam, 48.875
After a slow start on beam, El Mammann notched a 9.825 to spark some momentum. Lee and Smith carried the second half of the rotation, both landing 9.850s.
Rotation two: floor, 49.125
Halle Braaflat and Halle Gregoire both hit 9.850s on floor. Freshman Delanie Kelly kept the floor hot with a 9.825, followed by a 9.875 from Smith in the anchor spot.
Rotation three: vault, 49.075
The first half of the rotation struggled on vault, but a career-high 9.900 from Purler turned things around for the Sun Devils. Smith continued the success with another stuck vault for a 9.875, and Gregoire closed out the third rotation, scoring a 9.800.
Rotation four: bars, 48.400
Smith’s 9.825 on bars was the lone score at above a 9.800. The team had to count two scores below a 9.600 and the other two did not surpass a 9.750.

Arizona State will head to California for another quad meet, this time at San Jose State, on Sunday, March 1. The meet will also include Boise State and Sacramento State.
