GREENSBORO, N.C. – The first day of competition at the Big 12 Conference Swim and Dive Championships featured the No. 2/17 Sun Devil Swim and Dive program setting two meet records at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Arizona State’s men’s team set the meet record in the 200 medley and 800 free relay, while the women’s side bested its 2025 title-winning time by nearly seven seconds in the 800 free relay.
In the 200 medley relay, Arizona State set a meet record by touching the wall in 1:20.96 to give the Sun Devil men their first event win of the week. Graduate Adam Chaney set the pace with a 20.45 50 back leg, then senior Andy Dobrzanski swam a 23.20 50 breast leg, before handing it off to junior Ilya Kharun, who put down an 18.89 50 fly leg to lengthen the lead. Senior Tommy Palmer put an exclamation point on the meet record as the relay’s anchor.

The men’s 800 free relay broke its own meet record with a 6:08.31 winning time, marking the second consecutive year the men have won the event in the Big 12. Junior Filip Senc-Samardzic set the tone with a 1:32.87 200 free as the starting leg. Then, senior Jonny Kulow paced the relay with a 1:32.56 leg to lengthen the lead. Sophomore Quin Seider helped hold the lead with a 1:32.00 third leg, giving way to graduate Remi Fabiani to bring home the title.
In the women’s 800 free relay, the Sun Devils won the event by nearly seven seconds, touching the wall in 7:01.39, which was three seconds faster than when they won the event during last year’s Big 12 Championship. Freshman Albane Cachot brought home the win with a strong 1:43.56 200 free split, following junior Grace Lindberg, who pushed the Sun Devils ahead following a 1:44.41 200 free swim.
The women’s 200 medley relay team placed second in the final by hitting the wall with a season-best time of 1:36.10. The medley performance was highlighted by Cachot, who swam a swift 21.30-second 50 free anchor leg.
In the team diving event, the ASU women placed sixth with 251.35 points, which scored 48 points for the team. The performance was three spots better than last year’s outing at the Big 12 Championship.
The men’s diving team placed fourth with 327.35 points, which scored 52 points for the men’s team. The Sun Devil men’s finish was five spots better compared to last year’s Big 12 Championship.
Tomorrow’s preliminary swims begin with the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free swims along with the 1m and 3m diving competition at 8 a.m. MST on ESPN+.
