DENTON, Texas – Despite having an event winner in every event and a strong start to the meet, Sun Devil Gymnastics placed third in the quad meet at Texas Woman’s on Sunday afternoon with a 195.550, beating out Kent State but falling to TWU and Oregon State.

Notable stats

  • Arizona State (5-5. 2-2 Big 12) led after the first two rotations, but a tough go on bars set ASU back to third, where the team would remain.
  • The Gym Devils won or tied for every event title, with three wins coming from senior Kimberly Smith. She won the all-around (39.250), vault (9.850) and bars (9.900). Smith’s score on bars is her season best and the best by any Gym Devil on bars this season. Her vault score also matches her personal best.
  • Freshman Kylee Bromley tied her career-high on the floor with a 9.875. She also tied for event title.
  • Despite a new position in the beam lineup, senior Kayla Lee’s 9.875 earned her a new season high on that event and tied her for her first title on the event. She has yet to score below a 9.800 on beam this season.
  • On vault, freshman Safia El Mammann continues to be a steady force in the lead-off spot. She stuck her vault again, notching a 9.825. Additionally, fellow freshman Delanie Kelly earned a new career high on vault with a 9.800.
  • The Sun Devils will see Texas Woman’s (7-9) again on Friday in another quad meet at Kitty Magee Arena.
