PALO ALTO, Calif. – No. 5 Sun Devil Water Polo dropped its conference opener to reigning national champion No. 1 Stanford, 16-11, on Saturday afternoon in Palo Alto, Calif.
Arizona State trailed early but battled back to even the score before halftime. The Sun Devils remained within striking distance throughout the second half but ultimately fell short against the defending champions.
Senior attacker Millie Quin led the offensive effort with four goals while shooting 40 percent on the day. Freshman utility Jelena Butic also contributed efficiently, recording two goals and two assists.

Millie Quin has jumped out of the gates this season and has proved herself once again as a serious threat for the Sun Devils. The senior is currently 17 goals away from passing alumni Luca Petovary as the Sun Devil’s all-time leading scorer at 252 goals. Quin has found the back of the net for 78 goals on the year in just 19 games thus far.
