Thompson, Davis lead the way for Track and Field at Corky Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas — Sun Devil Track and Field compiled another strong outing over the course of the two-day Corky Classic, on Friday and Saturday at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center. 

Arizona State saw two first-place finishers as freshman sprinter Amir Thompson took home gold in the Men’s 300m, clocking in at 32.29, while junior sprinter Jayden Davis earned first in the men’s 600y with a time of 1:07.92. 

Graduate thrower Ines Lopez set a new personal record of 16.28 (53-5) in the women’s shot put to take second place in the event. The men’s throwers impressed as graduate student Brandon Lloyd took silver (18.85 / 61-10 ¼), while sophomore Preston Beery finished fourth at 18.50 / 60-8 ½. 

Freshman jumper Malith Yasiru continued his strong start to the season by taking second place in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 15.65 / 51-4 ¼. Yasiru has now earned consecutive top-two finishes after taking first at the NAU Axe ‘Em open on Jan. 9. 

The Sun Devils had 18 different student-athletes placed in the top-10, while eight of which placed within the top-three. 

ASU will head into a two-week hiatus before returning to action at the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on February 6-7.
