TEMPE– Sun Devil Wrestling kept within striking distance of victory, but ultimately fell short to West Virginia, 20-19, on Friday night at Desert Financial Arena.

The night was highlighted by the Larkin brothers who kept their winning streaks alive as both won by decision over their West Virginia adversaries. No. 3 Kaleb Larkin (149 lb.) moved up to the 157 lb. weight class once again to face No. 1 Ty Watters (WVU). The redshirt sophomore rose to the occasion, as he dethroned the top-ranked Mountaineer in the 4-2 decision. Larkin is now 2-0 at the 157-lb mark, with wins coming against the aforementioned Watters and No. 3 Vinny Zerban (Iowa State).

No. 5 Kyler Larkin (133 lb.) kept his poise against No. 16 Gunner Andrick (WVU) in a thrilling 7-4 win. The freshman battled til the end and managed to deliver a clutch takedown on his opponent as time expired to secure the matchup by decision after a nearfall was added.

The Sun Devils added two TF wins in different two weight classes tonight that brought them to a season-high 19 points. Nicco Ruiz (165 lb.) and heavyweight David Szuba both took care of business, each recording a 20-4 tech fall win over their respective opponents. 

Arizona State will conclude its three-match homestand with a dual against  Big 12 opponent Missouri at Desert Financial Arena on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. MST.
