TEMPE  – Sun Devil Swim and Dive returns to Mona Plummer Aquatic Center for the new year, competing against Grand Canyon on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 12 p.m. MST. 

Admission is free, and coverage can be followed on the team’s social media channels on X (@ASUSwimDive) and Instagram (@Sundevilswimdive). For live results, it can be found on Meet Mobile with the purchase of a subscription.

The team will be celebrating 20 seniors for their dedication to the program ahead of the dual meet.

The women return to competition after achieving a number of personal bests at the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge on Nov. 21-23, competing against No. 1 Virginia and No. 8 Tennessee over three days of swimming. Sophomore Julia Ullmann set a school record in the 100 fly (51.25) for the 12th fastest time in the nation. Her 200 fly time of 1:55.80 was a personal best and ranked fourth in school history.

The men’s team won the CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, taking down No. 9 Tennessee 39-17 in the championship duel on Nov. 23. Junior Ilya Kharun set two school records in the 100 fly (43.38) and the 200 fly (1:37.56), which are the fastest times in the country entering the second half of the season. 

Several Sun Devils competed at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships from Dec. 4-6. Junior Miriam Sheehan was seventh overall in the 50 fly (26.91) as senior Deniz Ertan finished seventh in the 200 fly in 2:14.10. In the B final, Ullmann and senior Gerda Szilagyi competed in the B final, finishing third (26.99) and seventh (27.26), respectively.

Kharun won gold in the 50 fly in 22.98 and had a second-place finish in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 50.40. He added a runner-up finish in the 200 fly in 1:55.71. In the 50 free, three Sun Devils placed in the top eight. Kharun was fourth in 21.87, Tolu Young was seventh (22.06), and Fabiani was eighth in 22.09.

Entering January, the Sun Devils have five swimmers under 19 seconds in the 50 free, with Kharun tied with Florida’s Josh Liendo for the fastest time in the nation at 18.40. Graduate Remi Fabiani leads the country in the 200 free at 1:31.23, and JT Ewing holds the top spot in the 200 back at 1:39.00.

Sophomore Jordan Greber established personal bests in the 100 free (48.81), which put her seventh in school history, and the 200 free (1:45.14), putting her ninth overall in school history. Sheehan swam a personal best in the 100 back in 51.83, the second fastest time in ASU history.

In the relays, the men’s team holds three of the fastest times in the nation.

Grand Canyon’s men’s team is coming off a win at the Oakland Golden Grizzly Classic and a sweep over Ottawa (AZ) and Arizona Christian this month. Their women’s team defeated Hawaii 134-127 on Oct. 25 and defeated New Mexico State 103-102 on Nov. 8. They placed second in the Oakland Golden Grizzly Classic on Dec. 3-6.
