TEMPE - Arizona State Men’s Basketball takes on Hawai'i on Thursday at 10 p.m. MST.

The Sun Devils (3-1) will face their first road test of the season when they battle the Rainbow Warriors (4-1) at the Stan Sherrif Center at Simlifi Arena. It is the first of four games in Hawai'i for Head Coach Bobby Hurley's group, as they head to the Maui Invitational next week.

The matchup
Arizona State and Hawai'i will match up for the 13th time, with the Sun Devils holding a 8-4 edge in the series. The last meeting between the two sides came on March 11, 1998 in the opening round of the NIT. ASU has a 5-3 advantage in games played in Honolulu.

How to follow
The broadcast of Sun Devil Men’s Basketball’s game on Thursday will air on ESPN+ /Spectrum Sports ($) when they take on Hawai'i at SimpliFi Arena, scheduled for a 10 p.m. MST tip-off with Kanoa Leahy and Artie Wilson on the call. Make sure to listen to Jeff Munn and Kyle Dodd on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM (KMVP). The action can also be tracked via live stats.

Quotable
"I thought our pressure was the key in the second half. We knew they turned it over about 14 times a game, and when we did it in the first half during that one stretch, it was effective. It was great that we didn’t put our heads down and say, ‘Woe is me’; we dug into the game and made the necessary plays." - Coach Hurley on the key to the win over Georgia State
Coach Hurley, Moe Odum postgame media

History in Hawai'i
Coach Hurley is no stranger to playing at the University of Hawai'i, having participated in the Rainbow Classic while a player at Duke in 1989. The Rainbow Warriors have hosted the tournament for 59 years. Forwards Marcus Adams Jr. (Cal State Northridge) and Allen Mukeba (Oakland) played in the Stan Sherrif Center with their respective programs a season ago.

Last time out
Sun Devil Men’s Basketball moved to 3-1 to start the season after defeating Georgia State, 75-62, on Monday night. Unlike in their first two wins in which Arizona State controlled the action and never trailed, ASU found themselves trailing by double figures early in the second half. Head Coach Bobby Hurley's team showed their signature resilience, erasing a five-point halftime deficit to earn their 48th come-from-behind victory in the Hurley era, a total that ranks Top-40 nationally since 2015-16.

The Sun Devils completely dominated the second half, outscoring the Panthers 41-23. They held their opponents to just 26.9% (7-of-26) from the field and 3-of-13 (23.1%) from three point range in the second half. ASU also outrebounded Georgia State 22-13 and had an 8-3 edge in assists while forcing 12 Panther turnovers over the final 20 minutes.

Senior point guard Moe Odum was the catalyst of the comeback, delivering his best game as a Sun Devil so far. He finished with 24 points, nine assists, and five steals while shooting 10-of-19 (52.6%) from the field in 31 minutes of action. Odum continues to be on pace to have one of the most productive passing seasons in program history, dishing out 30 assists through four games.

Joining Odum in sparking the second half rally was freshman center Massamba Diop. He recorded his first career double-double, finishing with 15 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal on 5-of-7 shooting in 30 minutes. He was a game-high +21, making an impact on both ends of the floor. Anthony "Pig" Johnson made the most of his time off the bench, adding 13 points and four rebounds in only 17 minutes. Sophomore guard Noah Meeusen made his Sun Devil debut, playing 17 minutes including critical possessions during the second half momentum swing.

Full recap of Georgia State win

Four-game Homestand
The Sun Devils went 3-1 during their four-game homestand to open the season, highlighted by victories Southern Utah, Utah Tech, and Georgia State. Their lone blemish was a 12-point defeat to No. 13 Gonzaga. ASU now hits the road for the first time when they head to Hawai'i for a matchup with the Rainbow Warriors on Nov. 20 at 10 p.m. MST.

3-1 start
The Sun Devils move to 3-1 for the second consecutive year. It is ASU’s ninth 3-1 start in 11 years of the Bobby Hurley era.

Seeking a 4-1 start
The Sun Devils are looking for their second consecutive 4-1 start to the season. Should ASU claim the victory, it would be their fifth 4-1 start in the Bobby Hurley era.

Don't count us out
The Sun Devils have come back to win a game when trailing at halftime 48 times during the Bobby Hurley era, including in Monday's win over Georgia State. It was the 13th comeback that resulted in a double-digit victory. Since 2015-16, the Maroon and Gold are in the top 40 in the nation in halftime comeback victories. Here is the full list of comebacks.

The Moe Show
Moe Odum had an outstanding performance against Georgia State on Monday night, finishing with 24 points, nine assists and five steals. The 24 points was tied for the third-most of his career and was the most by any Sun Devil so far this season.

Moe Odum's highest career scoring games

  • 31 pts with Pepperdine 3/7/25 against Portland
  • 26 pts with Pepperdine 2/22/25 against Loyola Marymount
  • 24 pts with Pepperdine 12/30/24 against Gonzaga
  • 24 pts with ASU 11/17/25 against Georgia State
  • 22 pts with Pacific 3/2/23 against Pepperdine
  • 21 pts with Pacific 1/18/24 against Santa Clara

Odum set a personal best with five steals and was the most by a single player since Frankie Collins against Oregon State on 1/27/2023. It was his third career game with four or more steals and 10th with three or more.

He is now in the Top-5 in the Big 12 in both assists (30) and steals (21). He has also led the team in assists throughout all four games of the season, and he continued that streak Monday with a season-high 9 assists. He now sits with 30 assists through four games, which puts him on a 240 pace over a 32 game season. This would be the second highest in program history, only behind Ahlon Lewis’ 294 assists in the 1998 season.

Mo(r)e assists, less games
Odum is putting together one of the most productive passing careers in recent memory. Among active NCAA players at the Division I level, Odum's 548 assists are the THIRD most. He is the only active NCAA Division I player to have been credited with 500+ assists and have played in 102 games or less.

Active NCAA Division I Players with 500+ career assists
1. Braden Smith, Purdue - 792 assists in 114 games
2. Themus Fulks, UCF - 612 assists in 116 games
3. Moe Odum, Arizona State - 548 assists in 102 games
4. Donavan Dent, UCLA - 521 assists in 108 games
5. Kerr Krisa, Cincinnati - 517 assists in 112 games

Proven Passer
Odum ranks near the top nationally in several significant career passing statistics, an indication of what a successful career he has had. Here is a closer look at where he stands nationally in several important categories:

---> 2.77 career assist/turnover ratio - 2nd nationally
---> 548 career assists - 3rd
---> 5.37 career assists/game - 7th

T-Allen-ted

Graduate transfer forward Allen Mukeba is solidifying his reputation as one of the premier rim protectors in all of college basketball. Mukeba is second on the team with six blocks this season, adding to his impressive career total. He is one of only 42 active NCAA Division I players with 105 or more blocks. Mukeba’s 105 career blocks are tied for the 38th-most of any active NCAA Division I player. He is one of only 17 NCAA Division I players nationally with over 105 career blocks in 91 career games or less.

11.17.25 Sun Devil Men's Basketball Postgame Presser - Georgia State

Massamba making his mark
Freshman center Massamba Diop has been one of the most impressive freshman in the country through four games. He is second on the team in points (14.5) and rebounds (7.0), producing at that level in only 29 minutes per game. He also has a team-high seven blocks and is second on the team with six steals, doing all this while committing only four personal fouls.

Bench boost
Arizona State has received tremendous contributions from its bench through four games. Both Allen Mukeba and Pig Johnson have reached double figures in two of the first four games. The return of Noah Meeusen only strengthens Bobby Hurley's reserves. Marcus Adams Jr. and Trevor Best have also contributed to the Sun Devils' 94-69 (+25) advantage in bench points this season.

Pushing the pace
Through four games, the Sun Devils have been one of the nation's best teams in transition. They have finished with more fast-break points than their opponent in all four games, eclipsing 20 points in three of those contests. ASU is averaging 21.3 fast break points, the 21st-best total in the nation. They are coming off a game in which they outscored Georgia State 27-5 in transition in the victory.

Telling the Troueth
Redshirt sophomore Sun Devil forward Santiago Trouet has fit in seamlessly since transferring in from San Diego. In the matchup with No. 19 Gonzaga and a formidable frontline, Trouet had 10 points and 11 rebounds while adding two blocks. Trouet had two consecutive double-doubles earlier in the year, becoming the first Sun Devil since Kimani Lawrence in 2021 to accomplish the feat. Only two Sun Devils finished with at least two double-doubles all of last year, and Trouet has accomplished the feat through four games.

Defending from Deep
Arizona State has held its first four opponents to a combined 28-of-111 from behind the arc. Teams are shooting a miniscule 27.7% from three-point range against the Sun Devils so far this season.

Dialed in from deep
Arizona State's starting backcourt has been extremely effective from three-point range this season. Moe Odum and Bryce Ford are a combined 20-for-45 (44.4%) from deep through foru games. Ford leads the team shooting 50% (9-of-18) while Odum is also over 40% (11-for-27).

Non-conference schedule breakdown | Conference schedule breakdown

Constant competition
Bobby Hurley has once again assembled one of the nation’s toughest schedules. The Sun Devils have eight games on their schedule against teams in the latest AP Top-25, including three of the Top-10. ASU could play a total of 12 teams that received at least one vote in the lastest rankings.

ASU opponents in the AP Top-25
2. Houston (Jan. 18 road game)
4. Arizona (Jan. 14 road game; Jan. 31 home game)

9. BYU (Jan. 7 road game)
15. Texas Tech (Feb. 17 home game)
13. Gonzaga (Nov. 14 home game)

RV USC (Potential Maui Invitational opponent)
RV Baylor, Kansas State (Big 12 single-game matchups)

Road warriors
Does any team in the nation have a tougher road schedule on paper in the preseason than Arizona State? It would be tough to argue. They have five road games scheduled against teams ranked in the top-16 of the AP Preseason Poll. That includes trips to No. 2 Houston and No. 8 BYU in addition to a non-conference battle with UCLA in Los Angeles. ASU will also face Texas and several other programs knocking on the door of the preseason Top-25 away from home when they travel to the Maui Invitational.

Impact transfers
A six-man transfer class immediately bolstered the Sun Devil Men’s Basketball roster. It is one of the premier transfer classes in program history. Moe Odum finished fourth in the nation, averaging 7.5 assists per game last year. Marcus Adams Jr. was an All-Big West Second Team selection, while Allen Mukeba landed on the Second Team All-Horizon League. Adante’ Holiman earned All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team distinction. Santiago Trouet made a big jump at San Diego a season ago and has three years of eligibility remaining. Scottsdale native Bryce Ford returns to the Valley after a successful run at Toledo. Odum and Adams Jr. were both rated as four-star prospects by 247 Sports.

About those Sun Devil wins

He has won 108 games in Arizona, but also has won at least five games in California (16), Nevada (13), Oregon (six) and Washington (five). Four wins have taken place in Utah, three in New York, and two in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Jeff Pendergraph Hall of Fame
A cornerstone of the Sun Devil Men’s Basketball program from 2005 to 2009, Ayres left an indelible mark on ASU Basketball. He was part of the 2025 Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame class. Over 126 games, he averaged 12.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and shot an impressive 58 percent from the field. His senior season was his finest, as he led the nation in field goal percentage at 66 percent, averaged 14.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, and earned First-Team All-Pac-10 honors. Notably, he delivered a 31-point, 11-rebound performance in a decisive win over Stanford in January 2009.

Ayres ranks sixth all-time in scoring (1,588 points), second in rebounds (942), and his 2008-09 field goal percentage is the school record. He is the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounding four consecutive seasons and helped guide ASU to a 25-win campaign and NCAA Tournament berth in his senior year.

Following his collegiate career, Ayres was selected in the 2009 NBA Draft and went on to play six seasons in the NBA, including a championship run with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, before continuing his career overseas.

His consistency, leadership, and inside dominance made him a pillar during a pivotal era of transition for ASU basketball.
