TEMPE - Arizona State Men’s Basketball hosts Georgia State at Desert Financial Arena on Monday at 7 p.m. MST.

The Sun Devils will take on the Panthers for the first time in program history. This is the final contest of a four-game homestand to open the 2025-26 season. Head Coach Bobby Hurley is looking to start 3-1 or better for the ninth time while at the helm in Tempe.

The matchup
For the second time this season, Arizona State will take on an opponent for the first time. The Sun Devils had also never faced Utah Tech before defeating them 81-66 earlier this season. It is the first time ASU has matched up with a Sun Belt opponent since a 77-65 defeat of UL Lafayette in 2019.

How to follow
The broadcast of Sun Devil Men’s Basketball’s game on Monday will air on ESPN+ ($) when they take on Georgia State at Desert Financial Arena, scheduled for a 7 p.m. MST tip-off with Braiden Bell and Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Famer Jeff Ayers (Pendergraph) on the call. Make sure to listen to Tim Healey and Kyle Dodd on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM (KMVP). The action can also be tracked via live stats.

Quotable
“It means a lot to me, especially to me and my family. As you’ve probably heard, my sister played here back in 2019; she played women’s volleyball here. So just growing up a Sun Devil and always just being a fan and seeing the crowd and everybody. I’m a hometown kid, and everyone is showing me the love. I really, really appreciate that. I appreciate the fans that are showing out tonight. It was a great showing. Sad we couldn’t bring home the W, but we’ll get back on the right track.” - Bryce Ford on playing in front of the home crowd

Last time out
Arizona State Men’s Basketball suffered its first defeat of the 2025-26 season at the hands of No. 19 Gonzaga. The Sun Devils battled with the Top-25 Bulldogs for all 40 minutes, jumping out to an early first-half lead, but were unable to overcome a solid bench and rebounding effort from Gonzaga. Several individual standouts demonstrated their ability to compete with the talented visitors, highlighted by redshirt sophomore forward Santiago Trouet. He notched a second straight double-double, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior point guard Moe Odum had a team-high 12 points, making four three-pointers while adding seven assists. Junior guard Bryce Ford, senior guard Anthony “Pig” Johnson, and freshman center Massamba Diop also contributed double figures in the scoring column.

Full recap of Gonzaga game

Four-game Homestand
The matchup with Georgia State is the final leg of a four-game homestand for the Sun Devils to open the season. Arizona State is currently 2-1 during the stretch, defeating Southern Utah and Utah Tech before falling to No. 19 Gonzaga at Desert Financial Arena. ASU's next home game is not until December 9 when they host NAU.

Seeking a 3-1 start
The Sun Devils look to move to 3-1 for the second consecutive year. Should ASU claim the victory, it would be their ninth 3-1 start in 11 years of the Bobby Hurley era.

Telling the Troueth
Redshirt sophomore Sun Devil forward Santiago Trouet has fit in seamlessly since transferring in from San Diego. In the matchup with No. 19 Gonzag and a formidable frontline, Trouet had 10 points and 11 rebounds while adding two blocks. Trouet now has two consecutive double-doubles, also accomplishing the feat in the win over Utah Tech (13 points, 10 rebounds). Only two Sun Devils finished with at least two double-doubles all of last year and Trouet has accomplished the feat through three games.

T-Allen-ted
Graduate transfer forward Allen Mukeba is solidifying his reputation as one of the premiere rim protectors in all of college basketball. Thanks to a two-block performance against Gonzaga, Mukeba added to his impressive career total. He is one of only 42 active NCAA Division I players with 105 or more blocks. Mukeba's 105 career blocks are tied for the 37th-most of any active NCAA Division I player. He is one of only 18 NCAA Division I players nationally with over 105 career blocks in 90 career games or less (90).

Keeping it 100
Senior point guard Moe Odum recently played in his 100th career game at the Division I level in the win over Utah Tech and has the most games played of any Sun Devil, now sitting at 101. He has led the Sun Devils in assists in all three games, averaging 7.0 assist/game, which is tied for 14th nationally and second in the Big 12 Conference.

Mo(r)e assists, less games
Odum is putting together one of the most productive passing careers in recent memory. Among active NCAA players at the Division I level, Odum's 539 assists are the THIRD most. He is the only active NCAA Division I player to have been credited with 500+ assists and have played in 101 games or less.

Active NCAA Division I Players with 500+ career assists
1. Braden Smith, Purdue - 792 assists in 114 games
2. Themus Fulks, UCF - 602 assists in 115 games
3. Moe Odum, Arizona State - 539 assists in 101 games
4. Kerr Krisa, Cincinnati - 517 assists in 112 games
5. Donavan Dent, UCLA - 514 assists in 107 games

Proven Passer
Odum ranks near the top nationally in several significant career passing statistics, an indication of what a successful career he has had. Here is a closer look at where he stands nationally in several important categories:

---> 2.75 career assist/turnover ratio - 2nd nationally
---> 539 career assists - 3rd
---> 5.34 career assists/game - 7th

Bench boost
Arizona State has received tremendous contributions from their bench through three games. As reserves, Allen Mukeba led the team in rebounds (6) and blocks (4) in the opener, while Pig Johnson finished with the most points in the win over Utah Tech. Despite Gonzaga having the edge in bench points this past game, the Sun Devils still have a 75-50 (+25) advantage in the category this season.

Pushing the pace
Through three games, the Sun Devils have been one of the nation's best teams in transition. They have finished with more fast break points than their opponent in all three games, eclipsing 20 points in two of those contests. ASU is averaging 19.3 fast break points, the 38th-best total in the nation.

Massamba making his mark
Freshman center Massamba Diop has been one of the most impressive freshman in the country through three games. In his first collegiate game, he became just the ninth freshman in the Bobby Hurley era to earn the opening night start. He delivered for Coach Hurley with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, five rebounds, and three blocks in only 27 minutes of action in the win over Southern Utah.

Diop elevated his game even more in the second game of the season, scoring a game-high 18 points in the victory over Utah Tech. He added six rebounds and two steals while converting both of his three point attempts. Diop has reached double figures in all three games and leads the Sun Devils in scoring averaging 14.3 points a game so far this season.

Defending from Deep
Arizona State has held their first three opponents to a combined 19-of-76 from behind the arc. Teams are shooting a miniscule 25.0% from three-point range against the Sun Devils so far this season, the 27th-best mark in college basketball and top total in the Big 12.

Dialed in from deep
Arizona State made 287 three-pointers last season, the fourth-most in program history. Four of the five most prolific three-point shooting seasons in program history have taken place in the Bobby Hurley era (328 in 2017, 288 in 2018, 274 in 2023). The Sun Devils made nine or more threes in each of their first three games and are averaging 9.3, which is already ahead of their average (8.7) from last season.

Road warriors
Does any team in the nation have a tougher road schedule on paper in the preseason than Arizona State? It would be tough to argue. They have five road games scheduled against teams ranked in the top-16 of the AP Preseason Poll. That includes trips to No. 2 Houston and No. 8 BYU in addition to a non-conference battle with UCLA in Los Angeles. ASU will also face Texas and several other programs knocking on the door of the preseason Top-25 away from home when they travel to the Maui Invitational.

Impact transfers
A six-man transfer class immediately bolstered the Sun Devil Men’s Basketball roster. It is one of the premier transfer classes in program history. Moe Odum finished fourth in the nation, averaging 7.5 assists per game last year. Marcus Adams Jr. was an All-Big West Second Team selection, while Allen Mukeba landed on the Second Team All-Horizon League. Adante’ Holiman earned All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team distinction. Santiago Trouet made a big jump at San Diego a season ago and has three years of eligibility remaining. Scottsdale native Bryce Ford returns to the Valley after a successful run at Toledo. Odum and Adams Jr. were both rated as four-star prospects by 247 Sports.

About those Sun Devil wins
Coach Hurley has notched 170 wins at Arizona State and has done it while scheduling aggressively and not being afraid to play on the road. He has won 107 games in Arizona, but also has won at least five games in California (16), Nevada (13), Oregon (six) and Washington (five). Four wins have taken place in Utah, three in New York, and two in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Jeff Pendergraph Hall of Fame
A cornerstone of the Sun Devil Men’s Basketball program from 2005 to 2009, Ayres left an indelible mark on ASU Basketball. He was part of the 2025 Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame class. Over 126 games, he averaged 12.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and shot an impressive 58 percent from the field. His senior season was his finest, as he led the nation in field goal percentage at 66 percent, averaged 14.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, and earned First-Team All-Pac-10 honors. Notably, he delivered a 31-point, 11-rebound performance in a decisive win over Stanford in January 2009.

Ayres ranks sixth all-time in scoring (1,588 points), second in rebounds (942), and his 2008-09 field goal percentage is the school record. He is the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounding four consecutive seasons and helped guide ASU to a 25-win campaign and NCAA Tournament berth in his senior year.

Following his collegiate career, Ayres was selected in the 2009 NBA Draft and went on to play six seasons in the NBA, including a championship run with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, before continuing his career overseas.

His consistency, leadership, and inside dominance made him a pillar during a pivotal era of transition for ASU basketball.
