TEMPE – To prepare for the 2025 season and give fans a first look at the squad, Sun Devil Volleyball is holding its annual Maroon and Gold scrimmage this Friday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m. MST in Desert Financial Arena.

The free scrimmage is Desert Financial Arena, which is where all home matches will be this season. It will give fans a first look at Arizona State's 2025 squad under third-year head coach JJ Van Niel. The event will see Team Maroon, coached by assistant Preslie Anderson, and Team Gold, coached by assistant coach Shaughn McDonald, facing off. Depending on how many sets are needed to determine a winner, there may be extra sets with different groupings.

Prior to the action, Van Niel will address the crowd. Following the game, there will be a chance for fans to interact with the team. Additionally, there will be staff on the concourse selling early bird season tickets and this will be the final opportunity to purchase those at the early bird rate.

The event is free to the public and those attending can park in lot 59 for free, which will be the usual free parking option all season. There will be a clear bag policy. There will be no live stream or live scoring.

On Saturday, the team will play in an exhibition against UNLV at Lake Havasu High School at 1 p.m. MST. That event is also free to the public.

The 2024 Big 12 Champions, Arizona State finished the 2024 season with a 30-3 record, going 17-1 in Big 12 play. The Sun Devils, who earned a No. 3 seed and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, advanced to the second round, the second-straight year doing so.

ASU lost the majority of its typical rotation from last season, with six graduates and one senior having moved on. ASU will return five that played in more than 10 matches, two who played in more than 30 matches. The team also has 11 newcomers, including six transfers, five of whom played the majority of last season. The season preview posted last week provides a breakdown of each student-athlete by position.
