The Sun Devil women's basketball team (8-14, 2-8 Big 12) hosts the last of three home games in a four-game stretch when it takes on BYU (10-10, 1-8 Big 12) on Saturday (6:30 p.m. MST) at Desert Financial Arena. The contest will be Sun Devil Women's Basketball's annual Black History Month game presented by Desert Financial Credit Union.
ASU has lost its last seven games after winning its first three following the holiday break. Three of the seven losses potentially could have gone the other way, including a 90-83 setback to Iowa State in which ASU nearly overcame the biggest deficit in program history.
The Sun Devils just concluded a span in which it faced three ranked teams in four games: at No. 11 Kansas State on Jan. 19, vs. No. 16 West Virginia on Jan. 22 and most recently at No. 24 Oklahoma State on Wednesday.

• Twenty-point games from Tyi Skinner (23 points) and Jalyn Brown (20 points), were not enough on Wednesday as the Sun Devil women's basketball team wasn't able to make up a big second half deficit in its 83-71 loss at No. 24 Oklahoma State.
• With a career- and team-high 11 rebounds, Brown posted her first career double-double to go with a career high-tying five assists. It was also the seventh time in her last 10 games – ninth time this season – that Brown has scored 20 or more points. For Skinner, who also had a team-high six assists, it was her sixth 20-point effort of the season, her first since a 27-point outing at San Francisco (Dec. 17). Skinnerscored 20 or more points four times in ASU's first seven games, including a career-high 30 points in ASU's season opener vs. Jacksonville State (Nov. 4).
• The Cowgirls had advantages over the Sun Devils in points off turnovers (19-10) and fast break points (21-11). One statistic that was literally the difference in the game – in terms of point differential – was the number of 3-pointers made by each team: OSU (11), ASU (7).
• Complementing Brown's career night in rebounds were Nevaeh Parkinson and Jazion Jackson who had seven rebounds each. Kennedy Basham had six blocks for the second time this season – one short of matching her career high – to go with seven points and three rebounds.
• Trailing by 15 at halftime, ASU found its shooting touch in the second half, shooting 59 pct (16-27), including 75 pct (6-8) from long range.
• Skinner's 3-pointer at the seven-minute mark was the start of a 20-12 run to close out the game. ASU made six of its last nine shots but was not able to get closer than 12 points.
• Brown (16 points/5-9 FGs) and Skinner (14 points/4-5 FGs – all 3-pointers) scored 30 of ASU's 45 points in the second half and combined to shoot 64 percent (9-14).
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
• Wednesday's game at Oklahoma State started the second half of Big 12 Conference play for the Sun Devils, who are currently in 13th place in the league standings. Including Saturday's game, ASU has an equal amount of home (four) and away (four) games remaining.
• ASU just completed a stretch in which it faced three top 25 teams in four games: at then-No. 11 K-State (Jan. 19), vs. then-No. 16 West Virginia (Jan. 22) and at No. 24 Oklahoma State (Jan. 29). Earlier this season ASU fell to then-No. 14 Kentucky 77-61. On Feb. 19, will host current No. 9 TCU.
• Jalyn Brown (10x) and Tyi Skinner (9x) have combined to lead or tie for the team lead in scoring 19x this season. Brown has led ASU in scoring in five of its last seven games. Also among the single-game scoring leaders have been Nevaeh Parkinson (2x), Jyah LoVett (1x) and Kennedy Fauntleroy (1x).
• Skinner (19/22 games) and Brown (15/19 games) have combined to score in double figures 34x. The two have also combined to score 20 or more points 15x: Brown 9x and Skinner 6x. Seven of Brown's nine 20-point games have come in her last 10 games. Her season-high 32 points at K-State (Jan. 19) represents the highest single-game total by a Sun Devil this season. Skinner scored a career-high 30 points in ASU's season opening win over Jacksonville St.
• Skinner (54 3-pointers this season) needs three 3-pointers to move into a tie for 10th place (Amanda Levens/2001-02) for most 3-pointers in a season. In her first season in Tempe in 2022-23, Skinner tied Courtney Ekmark (2018-19) for No. 2 on the list with 68. Katie Hempen set the current record with 76 in 2014-15.
• Jyah LoVett, who was not available for ASU's game at No. 24 Oklahoma State (Jan. 29), has scored in double figures 12x this season. Last month she had a streak snapped in which she scored in double figures in six straight games (averaged 14.7 points and connected on 54.5 percent of her shots during that stretch). Eight of LoVett's double-figure scoring games have come in her last 11 games.
• Kennedy Basham has had multiple blocks 13x this season, including a career-high seven rejections at San Francisco (Dec. 17). She has also had six blocks twice, most recently at Oklahoma State (Jan. 29). Currently with 55 blocks this season, Basham is tied with all-time Sun Devil great Kym Hampton for No. 2 on ASU's list for most blocks in a season. At the top spot is Kali Bennett who had 91 rejections in 2011-12.
WHAT IFS AND MIGHT HAVE BEENS
The Sun Devils, who have eight new players on this season's roster, have experienced the ups and downs that can sometimes go with combining the talents of several outstanding players. That factor alone could account for the Sun Devils' current 8-14 record. With several near misses, ASU is much closer to being somewhere in the top half of the Big 12 than its current record indicates.
• Against Arkansas State, ASU trailed by 13 with 6:15 remaining. After a 19-5 run, ASU was up by one with 1:01 remaining. Arkansas State scored the last five points of the game to claim the win.
• After going into the half with a 42-33 win vs. Grand Canyon, the Sun Devils were outscored 37-17 in the second half.
• At Coppin State, ASU was unable to score in the final 53 seconds to break a 61-61 tie. The Eagles would go on to win in OT.
• Despite a stout defensive effort and a plus-12 advantage on the boards, the Sun Devils came up on the short end of a 57-50 decision at UC Davis. For the second straight game the Sun Devils held the opposition to the fewest points they had given up this season and allowed the Aggies to shoot only 37 pct. ASU made only 28 pct of its shots and knocked down one of its 14 attempts from long range. Down by eight entering the fourth quarter, ASU got within one possession three times late in the game but did not come away with points in each instance. After Maggie Besselink's earlier field goal got ASU within two, the Sun Devils were only able to connect on three of their 14 shot attempts in the final five minutes of the game.
• At San Francisco, the Sun Devils were unable to take advantage of a 27-point performance from Skinner and a career-high and a tremendous all-around performance from Basham, who scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had a career-high seven blocks. The difference in the game was at the free throw line where the Dons had more than three times as many attempts (29-35) as ASU (9-11). Still the Sun Devils were tied at 57-57 with 1:09 remaining. After the Dons took a six-point lead, Skinner knocked down two triples and missed a third that would have sent the game to OT.
• ASU came up short in what would have been the biggest comeback in program history in a 90-83 loss to Iowa St. on Jan. 8. Down by as many as 20, ASU was within three points with 13 seconds remaining. An ASU win would have eclipsed the record for the biggest comeback in program history: 18 points vs. Utah on Feb. 17, 2019, a game in which the Sun Devils scored the last 20 points of the game to edge the Utes 60-58.
• At then-No. 11 Kansas State (Jan. 19), ASU trailed by two after one quarter, by six at the half and were able get back within seven three times in the fourth quarter after falling behind by as many as 17.
• Led Cincinnati (Jan. 25) by nine points in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for ASU, a 23-7 Cincinnati down the stretch prevented the Sun Devils from coming away with the win.
DYNAMIC DUO DEBUT
The 2023-24 Sun Devils were dealt a serious blow when it was announced before the season that superstar guard Tyi Skinner would miss the entire season due to a knee injury.
Skinner, who played her first two seasons at Delaware, joined Natasha Adair in Tempe after Adair was named ASU's head coach. In 2022-23, Skinner (2023 All-Pac-12 honorable mention) scored 20 or more points 15 times, including 29 points twice. A starter in all 28 games, Skinner averaged 19.3 ppg, (most by a Sun Devil since the 1988-89 ). She concluded her first campaign as a Sun Devil among the leaders in the Pac-12 in points per game (19.3/2nd/27th in the nation), 3-pointers per game (2.43 per game/2nd), minutes per game (36.59/3rd/29th in the nation), FTs made (79/3rd) and attempted (91/4th), steals per game (1.71/5th), 3-point FG pct (34.7/6th) and FT percentage (78.1/8th).
The 2023-24 Sun Devils were left pondering, 'what might have been,' had Skinner been able to share the court with Louisville transfer Jalyn Brown. Much like Skinner in 2022-23, Brown emerged as one of the top performers in the Pac-12 in 2023-24. In league games, Brown finished 3rd in the Pac-12 in scoring (19.6 ppg), 9th in FT percent (80.6) and tied for 14th in 3-pointers per game (1.56). She scored in double figures 26x (12 20-point games) including the two highest-scoring games by a Sun Devil since 2000: 35 vs. Colorado (Jan. 7, 2024) and 34 points at Washington (Jan. 21).
Brown, who earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors from the league's coaches and All-Pac-12 recognition from media who cover the league, went on to lead the team in scoring (17.3 ppg) and 3-pointers per game (1.4), was 2nd in FT pct. (76.9), 3-pointers (1.3 per game), minutes (35.54 mpg) and FTs made (103) and attempted (134), 3rd in assists (1.6 apg), tied for 3rd in steals (0.9 spg) and 4th in O-rebounds (1.1 rpg).
In her first game since the end of the 2022-23 season, Skinner scored a career-high 30 points – at the time the 17th instance she scored 20 or more points in a Sun Devil uniform – in ASU's 74-66 win over Jacksonville State (Nov. 4). Brown led ASU in scoring (24 points) vs. Arkansas State (Nov. 8). Combined with Skinner's 16 points, the duo combined for 40 points in the game.
In ASU's 80-73 win over SMU (Nov. 16), Skinner (26 points) and Brown (25 points) combined for 51 points. In addition both Skinner (8-16 FGs, 5-10 3FGs) and Brown (10-18 FGs, 3-7 3FGs) were efficient with their opportunities as they teamed up to shoot 53 percent (18-34 FGs) from the field, including 47 percent (8-17) from long range.
Skinner (19/22 games) and Brown (15/19 games) have combined to score in double figures 34x. The two have also combined to score 20 or more points 15x: Brown 9x and Skinner 6x. Seven of Brown's 20-point games have come in her last 10 games. Brown's season-high 32 points at K-State (Jan. 19) represents the highest single-game total by a Sun Devil this season.

NOTES ON ASU'S FIRST SEASON IN THE BIG 12
Big 12 Transfers: Three Sun Devil newcomers were on a Big 12 campus in the past year. Heavenly Greer played the past two years at Kansas State, Dallas native Jazion Jackson was at Texas Tech last year and Kennedy Fauntleroy was at Oklahoma State last year after earning 2022-23 Big East Freshman of the Year at Georgetown.
The Big 12 format: Teams will play three opponents home and away while facing six teams only at home and six opponents only on the road for a total of 18 Conference games. Opponents were selected based on a combination of geography, historical results and a poll of the coaches to best balance the schedule in terms of travel and competitiveness.

The Sun Devil women's basketball team (8-14, 2-8 Big 12) hosts the last of three home games in a four-game stretch when it takes on BYU (10-10, 1-8 Big 12) on Saturday (6:30 p.m. MST) at Desert Financial Arena. The contest will be Sun Devil Women's Basketball's annual Black History Month game presented by Desert Financial Credit Union.
ASU has lost its last seven games after winning its first three following the holiday break. Three of the seven losses potentially could have gone the other way, including a 90-83 setback to Iowa State in which ASU nearly overcame the biggest deficit in program history.
The Sun Devils just concluded a span in which it faced three ranked teams in four games: at No. 11 Kansas State on Jan. 19, vs. No. 16 West Virginia on Jan. 22 and most recently at No. 24 Oklahoma State on Wednesday.

• Twenty-point games from Tyi Skinner (23 points) and Jalyn Brown (20 points), were not enough on Wednesday as the Sun Devil women's basketball team wasn't able to make up a big second half deficit in its 83-71 loss at No. 24 Oklahoma State.
• With a career- and team-high 11 rebounds, Brown posted her first career double-double to go with a career high-tying five assists. It was also the seventh time in her last 10 games – ninth time this season – that Brown has scored 20 or more points. For Skinner, who also had a team-high six assists, it was her sixth 20-point effort of the season, her first since a 27-point outing at San Francisco (Dec. 17). Skinnerscored 20 or more points four times in ASU's first seven games, including a career-high 30 points in ASU's season opener vs. Jacksonville State (Nov. 4).
• The Cowgirls had advantages over the Sun Devils in points off turnovers (19-10) and fast break points (21-11). One statistic that was literally the difference in the game – in terms of point differential – was the number of 3-pointers made by each team: OSU (11), ASU (7).
• Complementing Brown's career night in rebounds were Nevaeh Parkinson and Jazion Jackson who had seven rebounds each. Kennedy Basham had six blocks for the second time this season – one short of matching her career high – to go with seven points and three rebounds.
• Trailing by 15 at halftime, ASU found its shooting touch in the second half, shooting 59 pct (16-27), including 75 pct (6-8) from long range.
• Skinner's 3-pointer at the seven-minute mark was the start of a 20-12 run to close out the game. ASU made six of its last nine shots but was not able to get closer than 12 points.
• Brown (16 points/5-9 FGs) and Skinner (14 points/4-5 FGs – all 3-pointers) scored 30 of ASU's 45 points in the second half and combined to shoot 64 percent (9-14).
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
• Wednesday's game at Oklahoma State started the second half of Big 12 Conference play for the Sun Devils, who are currently in 13th place in the league standings. Including Saturday's game, ASU has an equal amount of home (four) and away (four) games remaining.
• ASU just completed a stretch in which it faced three top 25 teams in four games: at then-No. 11 K-State (Jan. 19), vs. then-No. 16 West Virginia (Jan. 22) and at No. 24 Oklahoma State (Jan. 29). Earlier this season ASU fell to then-No. 14 Kentucky 77-61. On Feb. 19, will host current No. 9 TCU.
• Jalyn Brown (10x) and Tyi Skinner (9x) have combined to lead or tie for the team lead in scoring 19x this season. Brown has led ASU in scoring in five of its last seven games. Also among the single-game scoring leaders have been Nevaeh Parkinson (2x), Jyah LoVett (1x) and Kennedy Fauntleroy (1x).
• Skinner (19/22 games) and Brown (15/19 games) have combined to score in double figures 34x. The two have also combined to score 20 or more points 15x: Brown 9x and Skinner 6x. Seven of Brown's nine 20-point games have come in her last 10 games. Her season-high 32 points at K-State (Jan. 19) represents the highest single-game total by a Sun Devil this season. Skinner scored a career-high 30 points in ASU's season opening win over Jacksonville St.
• Skinner (54 3-pointers this season) needs three 3-pointers to move into a tie for 10th place (Amanda Levens/2001-02) for most 3-pointers in a season. In her first season in Tempe in 2022-23, Skinner tied Courtney Ekmark (2018-19) for No. 2 on the list with 68. Katie Hempen set the current record with 76 in 2014-15.
• Jyah LoVett, who was not available for ASU's game at No. 24 Oklahoma State (Jan. 29), has scored in double figures 12x this season. Last month she had a streak snapped in which she scored in double figures in six straight games (averaged 14.7 points and connected on 54.5 percent of her shots during that stretch). Eight of LoVett's double-figure scoring games have come in her last 11 games.
• Kennedy Basham has had multiple blocks 13x this season, including a career-high seven rejections at San Francisco (Dec. 17). She has also had six blocks twice, most recently at Oklahoma State (Jan. 29). Currently with 55 blocks this season, Basham is tied with all-time Sun Devil great Kym Hampton for No. 2 on ASU's list for most blocks in a season. At the top spot is Kali Bennett who had 91 rejections in 2011-12.
WHAT IFS AND MIGHT HAVE BEENS
The Sun Devils, who have eight new players on this season's roster, have experienced the ups and downs that can sometimes go with combining the talents of several outstanding players. That factor alone could account for the Sun Devils' current 8-14 record. With several near misses, ASU is much closer to being somewhere in the top half of the Big 12 than its current record indicates.
• Against Arkansas State, ASU trailed by 13 with 6:15 remaining. After a 19-5 run, ASU was up by one with 1:01 remaining. Arkansas State scored the last five points of the game to claim the win.
• After going into the half with a 42-33 win vs. Grand Canyon, the Sun Devils were outscored 37-17 in the second half.
• At Coppin State, ASU was unable to score in the final 53 seconds to break a 61-61 tie. The Eagles would go on to win in OT.
• Despite a stout defensive effort and a plus-12 advantage on the boards, the Sun Devils came up on the short end of a 57-50 decision at UC Davis. For the second straight game the Sun Devils held the opposition to the fewest points they had given up this season and allowed the Aggies to shoot only 37 pct. ASU made only 28 pct of its shots and knocked down one of its 14 attempts from long range. Down by eight entering the fourth quarter, ASU got within one possession three times late in the game but did not come away with points in each instance. After Maggie Besselink's earlier field goal got ASU within two, the Sun Devils were only able to connect on three of their 14 shot attempts in the final five minutes of the game.
• At San Francisco, the Sun Devils were unable to take advantage of a 27-point performance from Skinner and a career-high and a tremendous all-around performance from Basham, who scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had a career-high seven blocks. The difference in the game was at the free throw line where the Dons had more than three times as many attempts (29-35) as ASU (9-11). Still the Sun Devils were tied at 57-57 with 1:09 remaining. After the Dons took a six-point lead, Skinner knocked down two triples and missed a third that would have sent the game to OT.
• ASU came up short in what would have been the biggest comeback in program history in a 90-83 loss to Iowa St. on Jan. 8. Down by as many as 20, ASU was within three points with 13 seconds remaining. An ASU win would have eclipsed the record for the biggest comeback in program history: 18 points vs. Utah on Feb. 17, 2019, a game in which the Sun Devils scored the last 20 points of the game to edge the Utes 60-58.
• At then-No. 11 Kansas State (Jan. 19), ASU trailed by two after one quarter, by six at the half and were able get back within seven three times in the fourth quarter after falling behind by as many as 17.
• Led Cincinnati (Jan. 25) by nine points in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for ASU, a 23-7 Cincinnati down the stretch prevented the Sun Devils from coming away with the win.
DYNAMIC DUO DEBUT
The 2023-24 Sun Devils were dealt a serious blow when it was announced before the season that superstar guard Tyi Skinner would miss the entire season due to a knee injury.
Skinner, who played her first two seasons at Delaware, joined Natasha Adair in Tempe after Adair was named ASU's head coach. In 2022-23, Skinner (2023 All-Pac-12 honorable mention) scored 20 or more points 15 times, including 29 points twice. A starter in all 28 games, Skinner averaged 19.3 ppg, (most by a Sun Devil since the 1988-89 ). She concluded her first campaign as a Sun Devil among the leaders in the Pac-12 in points per game (19.3/2nd/27th in the nation), 3-pointers per game (2.43 per game/2nd), minutes per game (36.59/3rd/29th in the nation), FTs made (79/3rd) and attempted (91/4th), steals per game (1.71/5th), 3-point FG pct (34.7/6th) and FT percentage (78.1/8th).
The 2023-24 Sun Devils were left pondering, 'what might have been,' had Skinner been able to share the court with Louisville transfer Jalyn Brown. Much like Skinner in 2022-23, Brown emerged as one of the top performers in the Pac-12 in 2023-24. In league games, Brown finished 3rd in the Pac-12 in scoring (19.6 ppg), 9th in FT percent (80.6) and tied for 14th in 3-pointers per game (1.56). She scored in double figures 26x (12 20-point games) including the two highest-scoring games by a Sun Devil since 2000: 35 vs. Colorado (Jan. 7, 2024) and 34 points at Washington (Jan. 21).
Brown, who earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors from the league's coaches and All-Pac-12 recognition from media who cover the league, went on to lead the team in scoring (17.3 ppg) and 3-pointers per game (1.4), was 2nd in FT pct. (76.9), 3-pointers (1.3 per game), minutes (35.54 mpg) and FTs made (103) and attempted (134), 3rd in assists (1.6 apg), tied for 3rd in steals (0.9 spg) and 4th in O-rebounds (1.1 rpg).
In her first game since the end of the 2022-23 season, Skinner scored a career-high 30 points – at the time the 17th instance she scored 20 or more points in a Sun Devil uniform – in ASU's 74-66 win over Jacksonville State (Nov. 4). Brown led ASU in scoring (24 points) vs. Arkansas State (Nov. 8). Combined with Skinner's 16 points, the duo combined for 40 points in the game.
In ASU's 80-73 win over SMU (Nov. 16), Skinner (26 points) and Brown (25 points) combined for 51 points. In addition both Skinner (8-16 FGs, 5-10 3FGs) and Brown (10-18 FGs, 3-7 3FGs) were efficient with their opportunities as they teamed up to shoot 53 percent (18-34 FGs) from the field, including 47 percent (8-17) from long range.

Earned First-Team All-Conference USA honors after she started all 32 of UTEP's games and led the team in steals (2.06 per game/fourth in the conference) and was second on the squad in scoring (11.6 ppg), rebounds per game (5.8) and assists per game (2.3).

• Scored 14 points, hitting 86 percent of her shots (6-7) at Utah (Dec. 21), the third time this season she has shot higher than 80 percent in a game. In those three games – also vs. Arkansas State (80 percent/8-10/18 points) and vs. South Dakota (92 percent/12-13/career-high 26 points) – Parker has connected on 87 percent of her shots (26/30) and averaged 19.3 points.

NOTES ON ASU'S FIRST SEASON IN THE BIG 12
Big 12 Transfers: Three Sun Devil newcomers were on a Big 12 campus in the past year. Heavenly Greer played the past two years at Kansas State, Dallas native Jazion Jackson was at Texas Tech last year and Kennedy Fauntleroy was at Oklahoma State last year after earning 2022-23 Big East Freshman of the Year at Georgetown.
The Big 12 format: Teams will play three opponents home and away while facing six teams only at home and six opponents only on the road for a total of 18 Conference games. Opponents were selected based on a combination of geography, historical results and a poll of the coaches to best balance the schedule in terms of travel and competitiveness.
ASU's Big 12 opponent breakdown: Home: Baylor (2024 NCAA Tournament Team), Cincinnati (2024 WNIT Team), Iowa State (2024 NCAA Tournament Team), TCU (2024 WBIT Team), Texas Tech, West Virginia (2024 NCAA Tournament Team). Away: Central Florida, Colorado (2024 NCAA Tournament Team), Houston, Kansas (2024 NCAA Tournament Team), Kansas State (2024 NCAA Tournament Team), Oklahoma State. When it starts/ends: League play begins Saturday, Dec. 21 with six games and concludes Sunday, March 2. The regular season will be followed by the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship, which will take place in Kansas City's T-Mobile Center for the second consecutive season.
About the league: The current league members combined to go 8-0 in their first game of the 2024 NCAA Tournament while 15 of the 16 teams finished the 2023-24 season in the top 101 of the NET rankings. Four Big 12 teams are ranked in the top 16 of ESPN's Women's Basketball Way-Too-Early Top 25, tied for the most of any league.
